Hi there! If you’ve been here before, you already know how much I love jeans. They’re a classic staple that you can wear any time of the year. Since they come in so many different washes and styles, there’s a pair for everyone. Light blue jeans have become pretty popular in my closet these days, so I wanted to put together a blog post on all the different ways to wear them. I love a lighter wash denim for spring and fall, but they’re also perfect for winter. They look really nice with so many different leathers and fabrics, which makes them easy to style.
Today, I’m sharing a roundup of items that look great with light blue jeans plus some outfit ideas that you can wear right now.
What To Wear With Light Blue Jeans When It’s Cold
First, here are my absolute favorite light blue denim jeans. I own and love each of these. I’d say the first two are the pairs I wear the most right now, but I really do wear them all a ton. I wrote an entire blog post on the second pair I linked. Click here to read my post on wide leg jeans outfit ideas!
I use affiliate links throughout this blog post, which means I might make a commission if you use my link and then make a purchase. This commission comes at no cost to you.
Okay, let’s look at individual items that work well with light blue jeans before we look at outfit ideas! I’ve worn light blue jeans with most of these pieces, so you can see what they look like in an outfit later in the blog (scroll down if that’s what you’re looking for!)
Grey Sweater and Accessories
My exact jeans that I’m wearing above are perfect to wear with grey this winter and into spring. The color of this wash is less of the bright acid wash you see in some light blue jeans and a try blue-grey. I actually wasn’t sure what the color was going to look like. But, the color goes with both brown, camel, and beige tones as well as grey or black. Kind of perfect!
Neutral Coat
Neutral coats will go a long way in your closet for many years, and they look really nice with light blue denim. A neutral coat will dress up any denim look. There are so many coat options out there, which might feel a little overwhelming! I would pick based on which color will go with the absolute most in your closet. Okay, that might seem obvious. But, I am no stranger to getting pulled into adding a coat to my cart that is gorgeous but won’t work with most of my wardrobe.
Brown Sweaters
My closet is full of brown sweaters! From a cashmere crewneck that I wear every week to a brown cardigan I just purchased, I turn to this color time and time again. There is something about a rich neutral color like brown or navy that just looks really nice with jeans in lighter shades! Speaking of brown, you might also want this brown cashmere scarf to keep warm.
Knee High Boots
Brown or black leather knee high boots look beautiful against a wide leg, light wash jean. My brown knee high boots are my most worn boots this fall and now winter. I’ll wear them for years to come. I love to wear mine under wide leg or relaxed jeans. I can also tuck my skinny or straight leg jeans in for a totally different look.
A Festive Sweater
You might be thinking, when was the last time you wore a festive sweater? I know you’re a neutrals gal. Okay, you’re right – but I love a festive sweater around the holidays. I have a bright red turtleneck I wear a lot this time of the year. Click here to see a festive green cardigan I tried on with light blue denim. I think bright sweaters look really pretty with light blue jeans! But, if you’re a neutral lover like me, then this sweater and this sweater are both great festive options. Loafers and Socks
Cognac, beige, or black loafers will pair well with light wash denim. I think a leather shoe really pops against the lighter blue. You can pair your loafers with socks when it’s cold so you stay warm! The pair I linked below are the pair I own and wear often – you can see them in outfit photos below! The best part is this pair was comfortable right away – no blisters!
Cream Handbag
I love how my cream handbag (first link below) looks against my lighter wash denim, so I had to include it here! The bag is something you can wear all year, and it works for dinner out as well as when you’re just running errands. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your denim transferring to your bag when you’re wearing light blue jeans. I carry this bag most days (along with a diaper bag).
Leather Blazer
Leather blazers are just timeless in my opinion! You can pair a leather blazer with tailored light blue jeans for a classic outfit for work. Or, pair your leather blazer with distressed denim and sneakers for a sporty outfit on your days off.
Denim Button Up
I love the look of denim on denim. You could pair it with a neutral cardigan or blazer for a casual office look. You could also wear your denim button up as an overshirt and pair it with a tank top or turtleneck! This denim button up is a great option for that type of outfit – wear it open or partially buttoned. I’d layer it with a white tank or turtleneck to tie it together with your lighter denim jeans.
Navy Blue Coat
A classic navy blue coat pairs perfectly with light wash skinny jeans. I picked this piece because it’s something I have in my closet that I love to wear with light wash jeans!
Black or Cognac Belts
This one is short and sweet. Black and cognac belts alway look perfect against denim.
Ten Light Blue Jeans Outfits
I have so many examples from my own photos plus outfit ideas of how to wear light blue jeans! A lot of them include the pieces I suggested above. Okay, let’s look at the outfits!
Grey Sweater with Grey Boots for Winter
Let’s start with the details on my look featured at the beginning of this blog post. It feels very wintery! I will definitely wear this look into the spring, though, by pairing it with tan or black ballet flats. For now, this outfit works for weekend brunch, holiday shopping, a cookie swap, or cozy drinks!
Camel Coat with Neutral Sweater and Loafers
Neutrals look so good with light wash denim! I think light wash denim can come off as casual, and a nice neutral will dress up your look. Layer a neutral tailored coat or a wrap coat over a cashmere sweater like I did below for an elevated casual look. I would wear this to work in a casual office setting as well as on the weekend!
I recreated this look as everything I’m wearing is old. The two sweaters I linked are by the same company as the one I’m wearing. I have a few cashmere sweaters by them, and they are incredibly warm.
Date Night Outfit: Light Blue Trouser Jeans and Off The Shoulder Sweater
I’m obsessed with this look! Light wash jeans are a good date night outfit when you pair them with knee high boots! I love this look for a winter date night. These knee high leather boots are beautiful, and these jeans are so, so soft. The off the shoulder sweater will keep you warm, but you’ll look so chic!
Light Blue Denim Outfit For the Weekend
This is one of my favorite and most worn weekend looks. The fun waistline on these jeans is trendy, but I really love the look of it so I went for it! And, I think this exact pair of light blue jeans looks perfect with the camel brown color of my sweater. This is one of my warmest sweaters, so it’s perfect for this time of the year. My entire outfit is still available!
I also linked a turtleneck sweater that I tried in store and thought was beautiful – it would pair so well with light blue jeans.
Navy Blue Coat to Dress Up Jeans
If you aren’t a fan of wearing black or brown, then navy is the perfect neutral for you to pair with light blue jeans. I really love this coat with these skinny jeans. A wrap coat isn’t as tailored, so it looks nice against skinny jeans! This wrap coat is perfect to dress up or down. This is the sweater I’m wearing in the photo featured at the top of this blog post. It’s super warm, and it’s a really good price! I’m wearing a small. I probably could’ve sized down one size, but I’d say it’s pretty true to size with an oversized fit.

Leather Blazer with Distressed Light Denim and White Sneakers
This is a very casual outfit, but I love how the leather blazer adds a fun edge! I wore this for a coffee catch up with a friend last spring, but this is an outfit you can wear all year – except summer, of course. My white sneakers were perfect for walking around the city. This is the cream bag I mentioned at the start of this post. I carry it everywhere!
Leather Blazer with Light Blue Denim Trousers
I always talk about picking things you can rewear in your closet, and these light blue denim trousers are a good example. In fact, so is the blazer! This outfit is perfect for work. The heels I linked are my most worn work heel. They are comfortable and reliable. The heel height is perfect, and they literally go with anything.
I own these jeans in the medium wash. See what they look like on me here.
Brown Sweater with Light Jeans for Winter Travel
This ribbed sweater comes in the most beautiful chocolate brown! I love the camel color of the one I’m wearing with light jeans, but it’s sold out. This sweater has been through it all – from busy days at home with a baby to running around London – and it still looks great. If you need something to keep you warm, this is it! Anyway, a chocolate brown sweater really pops against the light wash of these jeans. It’s a great option for vacation in a city, where neutrals are always popular.
I recently wore a brown sweater with light jeans for Christmas tree and holiday wreath shopping too. Click here for that outfit.
A Timeless Look in Light Blue Jeans
This is a look you can wear with multiple pairs of light denim. A pair of jeans and a white button up, whether it’s fitted or oversized, is a classic outfit that will never go out of style. I put together these looks with the two pairs of jeans that are the most different to show the versatility of the look. You can wear this with any of the jeans featured throughout the post (or the light blue jeans you have in your closet)!
I love how the skinny jeans outfit is a little edgy, while the wide leg jeans outfit is something you could wear to the office. They’re both timeless in my opinion! I think I bought my first pair of combat boots in 2010, but I know they’ve been popular well before that. My point is, they’re still very much in style today and have stood the test of time! I would wear both of these looks! If you want to see how these sunglasses look on, click here to see them on me. The black Celine belt is available here.
Denim on Denim Outfit
I wore this outfit when I was pregnant last year, but it’s still one I love today. Plus, all denim looks have stood the test of time. You see them year after year – and season after season. Okay, you don’t need to wear dark blue or medium wash denim for a cute denim on denim look! This was a spring look. Today, I would layer this look with a sweater coat and some loafers to give it more of a cold weather vibe. I love the khaki green color of this sweater coat because it works with brown or black shoes.
I hope you found some outfit inspiration for a light blue jeans outfit! Do you have a favorite look?
