Hi there! Thanks for coming by today. We’ve had a heatwave here in DC, and it has been so hot! Linen is one of my favorite things to wear when the weather gets like this. But, it’s also a nice fabric for early fall and late spring. I recently purchased a linen vest to wear now into fall. I’ve been wearing it even more than I expected so I wanted to write a blog post about how to style a linen vest.
While vests have been on-trend lately, they’ve been part of suiting separates forever, so they’re definitely classic. Vests are a stylish and versatile piece to add to your wardrobe, whether you prefer a longer one like me or a shorter one that hits around your waist. You can wear this type of top to work, to brunch, on a winery trip, to a cookout, or to church. It’s that versatile!
You can shop my exact outfit below, and I linked a few bags I like too.
How To Style Linen Vests For Summer, Fall, and Spring
The first couple of outfit ideas are built around the vest I’m wearing, but I put together other outfit ideas with different vests too. While my linen vest is black, you can also wear a white, beige, red, brown, or whatever color you choose! Each of these will make a stylish outfit no matter what type of pants, jeans, or skirt you wear.
Linen Vest Outfit 1: Casual Look For Work Or Weekend
I love the longline of my linen vest because it hits at all the right places to make you feel taller! It has an adjustable buckle at the back too, which I’ve pretty much left unbothered as I prefer a looser, more casual fit.
Linen Vest Outfit 2: How To Wear A Linen Vest To Work
The high neckline of my exact vest makes it work appropriate! You can use the adjustable buckle at the back to cinch in the top a little bit if you want to. I recently wore this black cotton maxi skirt with my vest top to a nice dinner, but the same outfit is actually work appropriate for many offices. If you are more into a pencil skirt or want a linen skirt, I love how this top looks with the matching pencil skirt.
One of the nice details about a longline vest is it hits at a place where it helps cover anything you might want to cover. For instance, I still have some baby weight in my stomach that I haven’t lost yet, and I feel really confident in this vest.
Linen Vest Outfit 3: Summer Vacation Bright Linen Vest Outfit
If you like to wear shorts, then this is the perfect outfit for you. A short or regular length linen vest looks so chic with linen shorts – whether the shorts are short or long! Packing for a vacation? One of the best ways to save space and streamline getting dressed is to pack things you can rewear! These shorts are perfect to rewear with a bright vest one day and a neutral vest – like the outfit below – the next day. Plus, these shoes and accessories are perfect for both looks.
Linen Vest Outfit 4: Neutral Linen Vest Outfit For Vacation
Pack this outfit for a city summer vacation or a beach vacation! You could wear it walking around all day, or you could wear it to dinner at a local seafood restaurant. It’s also a good option to wear day-to-night. If you want to make sure you can rewear this look at home, I love this if you’re doing a day trip to a winery, antique shopping, or a cookout at a friend’s house. It’s a versatile look that is meant to be both comfortable and chic.
Linen Vest Outfit 5: Date Night Outfit In A Black Linen Vest
This halter top take on the linen vest is such a cute option for date night. It’s versatile, so you can wear it with trousers, jeans, a skirt, or shorts. I styled it here with these trousers that I love and wear all the time (click here to see them on me) – they’re a nice fabric so they aren’t ever too hot. Perfect for transition seasons like fall and spring too! If you opt for this look in the spring or fall, you can easily drape a blazer or denim jacket over your shoulders if you need a layer. I love this oversized denim jacket.
