Hi there and welcome! As we are right in the middle of summer, sandals are probably heavy in your rotation of shoes. If you live in a place where you find yourself walking a lot, then you might want to consider fisherman sandals for summer, fall, and late spring. They give your foot more coverage than a typical slide sandal or another flat sandal. I find that to be so nice when walking around a city! Anyway, fisherman sandals might seem tricky to style. Since I’ve been wearing mine all summer, I put together a few tips and outfits for how to wear them.
How To Wear Fisherman Sandals With A Dress, Skirt, Pants, Or Any Other Type of Bottoms
I’ve worn my fisherman sandals with tons of different things in my closet – from my maxi dress (photo above) to elevated trousers (photo later in this post). These shoes will surprise you with just how much they go with! Below are a few pairs I love.

And, here are a few tips for styling these shoes. If you’re looking for outfit ideas, just skip ahead!
Choose A Neutral Color Fisherman Sandal
While a bright red shoe or something similar is a fun pop of color, I would stick to a neutral color for your fisherman sandal so you can get the most out of it. Of course, you can treat pops of color as an outfit base and build your whole look around it. But, fisherman sandals are the perfect shoe to accessorize with instead of building an entire outfit around them. They’re a no-fuss shoe that look really cute, but they won’t take away from a nice skirt or a beautiful blouse. I hope this doesn’t read as a negative! The shoes I get the most use out of are both cute and practical. I turn to this type of shoe in my closet a lot, and they stand the test of time! Considering how much I’ve worn my own fisherman sandals this summer, I know they’ll do the same.
Go For Leather To Get The Most Use
Fisherman sandals come in a range of materials. If you want to be able to wear these shoes with a dress, skirt, jeans, or trousers, I highly recommend going with a pair of leather fisherman sandals. Jelly sandals are a great option for the pool or for going to the park with kids!
Keep It Simple
You don’t need to really try and style these shoes – they’re the perfect shoe to throw on and go. So, don’t overthink it! See some of the outfit ideas below for how a fisherman sandal looks nice with totally different types of looks.
Style Edgy Fisherman Sandals With Feminine Pieces
Don’t be afraid to style your fisherman sandals with the more feminine and romantic pieces in your closet – like a dress, skirt, or straw bag. These pieces compliment each other and balance out your look if you aren’t into something super edgy. I gravitate towards items that work with edgy and classic outfits, and fisherman sandals definitely fall into that category.
Fisherman Sandals Outfits
Okay, here are several ways I’ve worn my fisherman sandals. Some are more casual than others, and some of these outfits work for other seasons too!
Maxi Dress With Fisherman Espadrille Sandals
I don’t normally use the word romantic to describe a shirtdress, but this one truly feels it with a deep v-neck and ruching! I loved how my sandals balanced out this super feminine dress and gave the outfit a little bit of a boho vibe! Fisherman espadrille sandals might not be the first pair of shoes you grab to pair with a maxi dress like this, but they look really nice together! For a summer maxi dress, I recommend going with fisherman espadrille sandals like the pair I’m wearing since espadrilles bring a true summer feel to an outfit.
Fisherman Sandals And A Black Mini Dress
My fisherman espadrille sandals are also perfect to throw on for a coffee run. I knew I would be walking, but I didn’t want to wear sneakers because it was incredibly hot! So, these fisherman sandals were perfect to go with this mini dress for a casual outfit. My mini dress is super flowy, but you can also add a belt to it or tie a button up around your waist for some shape!
Trousers Outfit To Wear With Fisherman Sandals
Fisherman sandals add an elevated casual look to my trousers and linen t-shirt outfit. This outfit was another example of when I knew I would be walking around – I wanted to be comfortable and still look nice. These sandals were perfect, and I love how this whole look has a classic and edgy vibe – the sandals help achieve that feel. If you’re allowed to wear sandals in your office, you can add a blazer or denim jacket to this look to make it work for early fall and spring temperatures. I would also consider these leather fisherman sandals, which are not espadrilles. You might want to wear a thicker cotton t-shirt instead of a linen top depending on the time of the year too.
Chic Fisherman Sandals Outfit With A Vest
Linen vests are on-trend and bring a polished, sophisticated, and chic feeling to any outfit. You can get mine here for 20% off with code YOUROCK. I’m wearing size medium, which I purchased based on the waist measurements and bust measurements. Anyway, I love how fisherman sandals look with these jeans, and I’ve also worn them with this black cotton maxi skirt. My skirt comes in white, too, and these raffia fisherman sandals would look so cute with it!
Classic Outfit: Fisherman Sandals, Striped T-Shirt, And Jeans
If you love classic outfits, this look might be one you love! You can wear this through several seasons. Whether you choose espadrille fisherman sandals like I’m wearing or a leather pair, I love how timeless this entire outfit feels. This look is a perfect example of what I meant by my “keep it simple” tip. This outfit came together seamlessly, and I love how it still looks really nice.
Fisherman Sandals And Linen Midi Dress
This dress is my most worn dress this summer, but I love how you can style it into fall and for the spring. Fisherman sandals are actually perfect for this dress, especially if you’re styling them as you move through seasons. I love my fisherman espadrille sandals for summer, but you could also go with this raffia pair! A full leather fisherman sandal – like this pair – will look better for fall or spring styles! if you’re looking for other pieces you can wear into the fall, check out my blog post on a capsule wardrobe for fall.
I’m surprised I don’t have a photo with this dress and my own fisherman espadrilles because I wear them together, but here is the dress on me! I recommend going a size down as it fits a little oversized.
