Hi there! If you can believe it, in just a few days, it looks like the weather will be cool enough to wear boots here in DC. It’s one of my favorite times of the year because boots can change the entire vibe of an outfit! Today’s post is highlighting Chelsea boots because I think they’re a closet staple for the upcoming colder seasons. But, I know they might feel tricky to style, especially if you love a pair with a lug sole but aren’t sure where they’re appropriate. So, let’s talk about how to style Chelsea boots and look at some outfits!

What Are Chelsea Boots
Okay, maybe we should talk about what Chelsea boots are for just a second, and I’ll share a few of my favorite pairs right here! They’re typically the height of a bootie with a more rounded or almond toe. But, some of them do have different toe shapes! Chelsea boots also come with different types of soles, which is part of what makes each pair unique – some have lug soles, others have flat soles, and some have a more Western heel. Most Chelsea boots are some sort of leather.
Are Chelsea Boots In Style
Like I said above, Chelsea boots are timeless, and they will always be in style! These boots have stood the test of time when it comes to being trendy. Plus, there are always new ways to wear your Chelsea boots with both classic outfits and trendier looks.
How To Wear Chelsea Boots To Work Or For A Casual Look
Casual: For a casual look, jeans and Chelsea boots go hand in hand. If you want to wear a lug sole, this is the way to do it. These boots can add a fun, edgy vibe to your classic sweater and jeans outfit. You can tuck your jeans in the boots like I did here, which I love to do with skinny jeans or straight leg jeans. Or, you can wear your jeans over the boots like I did in photos below.
Work: If you want to wear Chelsea boots to work, I’d opt for a pair with a more traditional sole as opposed to a chunky, lug sole. You can wear the boots with a dress and tights. This pair is perfect for that type of look, and they’re on sale. I’ve included a couple of work outfits idea below. If you work in a casual work environment, then a chunkier Chelsea boot is fine to wear! I would just avoid the heavier, more casual sole for anything business casual or more formal. Okay, here are several outfit ideas that you can shop or simply get some inspiration to put together pieces from your own closet!
Chelsea Boots Weekend Look With Oversize Sweater
This is one of my go-to outfits in the winter. There’s nothing easier and cozier than an oversized cashmere sweater, your favorite jeans, and chunky boots with cozy socks! I love to wear Chelsea boots with straight leg jeans like this pair. My exact jeans are available here, and my exact sweater is available in light beige here! My exact boots are super old. But, I love this pair and think they’re very similar, and so is this pair for under $200.
Here is the recreated look in beige. My jeans are exact, my sweater is exact in a different color, and my hat is exact in a different color. I am considering this sweater and hat because I wear them both so much!
Chelsea Boots With A Shirtdress
Do you ever see a photo and remember how happy you were? That’s this photo for me. I was super pregnant, but it was at a point where I felt good. Plus, I loved and still love this outfit. So, I’ve recreated it below. My sunglasses are the exact same, and everything else I linked because it’s the same vibe. The shirtdress I linked is the perfect length to wear with Chelsea boots (or other boots). This outfit felt effortlessly cool, especially for a pregnant, lady ha! But, it’s also super easy to create – I’m just wearing a shirtdress, an oversized blazer, chunky boots, and my favorite accessories. My blazer actually came with this brooch, and I think it helped elevate the whole outfit. You can find a cute brooch pretty much anywhere – from Amazon to Neiman Marcus!
I also think this outfit would look really cute with this leather shirt jacket, whether you go for the brown, black, or mushroom color option!
Shearling Lined Chelsea Boots For Cold Days
Whether you’re commuting to work, watching your little one’s soccer game, picking out a Christmas tree, or just spending time outside when it’s cold, you won’t regret shearling lined Chelsea boots. They’ll go with jeans, leggings, and loungewear (these are my favorite to wear with Chelsea boots). I’ve actually considered a pair of boots like this for a few years, and now that I have a little one, I think I might need a pair since I’m outside so much. The boots I’m wearing below are not shearling lined, but I picked this photo because I think it’s the perfect outfit (jeans linked here) and occasion to wear them!
Pleated Skirt And Chelsea Boots For Work
Pleated midi or maxi skirts are the perfect length for work and for Chelsea boots. I’m linking below a few pleated skirts and the Chelsea boots I would wear with them! This type of skirt looks nice with a fitted top and a cropped jacket, whether that’s a leather jacket, lady jacket, or a blazer.
Sheath Dress And Chelsea Boots For Work
A sheath dress, a thin turtleneck, and tights with Chelsea boots will look so chic for work. I love this classic pair of Chelsea boots because they are definitely work appropriate. Tory Burch makes beautiful shoes, so you can be confident they’ll stand the test of time.
Chelsea Boots With A Cotton Skirt
Do you love skirts? They’re a great option if you want to elevate an outfit you might otherwise wear with jeans. A cotton maxi skirt is perfect to wear this fall when you aren’t ready for heavyweight layers. I picked up a black cotton skirt knowing I would wear it through the fall. My exact skirt, which comes in a range of sizes, looks really nice with Chelsea boots.
