Hi there and welcome back! I’m writing this post in December, so I’ve been wearing lots of winter outfits. I think shoes are one of the most important parts of an outfit when it’s cold outside. They can make your entire outfit stylish and still keep your feet warm! I’ve been wearing loafers all year, but it might surprise you that loafers are a great shoe for winter. I’m so excited about this post because loafers are a major part of my own wardrobe, and I always get questions about how to wear them when it gets cold outside. They’re a much more practical choice for winter than you might think!

Today, I’m sharing a roundup of ways to wear loafers in the winter and keep your feet warm. If you’re looking for general tips on how to style loafers, check out my blog post. Okay, before we get into styling loafers for the cold weather, here are pairs I love for winter. I own the first two pairs. The second pair isn’t featured in this blog post, so click here to see a video of what they look like on me.
How to Wear Loafers in the Winter
If you want to wear loafers when it’s cold but you aren’t exactly sure how to style them, this post will help! You can style most loafers with socks, sock tights, or tights to keep warm. Plus, if your loafers need to be broken in before they’re comfortable, socks or sock tights typically act as the perfect barrier to protect your feet from blisters. Below are socks and sock tights I wear or would wear with loafers. I typically go for neutral sock tights, but I love to wear fun socks with my loafers. Cashmere socks are one option to make sure your feet stay warm. As for tights, I’d just go with the color that best matches your outfit!
Can You Wear Loafers in the Winter
There are several ways to wear loafers through the winter, and stay warm and stylish! I included outfit ideas below so you can see exactly what I mean.
If You’re Wondering How to Style Loafers in Winter, Here Are 11 Outfits
I mostly wear my loafers and socks or sock tights with jeans or pants you’d wear to work, but loafers also look nice with tights and a dress! Here are a few outfit ideas for how to style loafers and keep your feet warm!
Two-Tone Loafers And Matching Socks With Jeans
This is a go-to winter outfit for me, and it’s a classic look you can wear for a casual work day or out for holiday fun with your family like I am here. The cashmere socks I’m wearing in the photo below are the perfect thickness to wear with loafers. They aren’t too thick for shoes, but they’re really warm and soft. You can still wear socks with your loafers even if your loafers are two-tone like mine or have a fun pattern. I’ve even worn the loafers below with fun salmon color cashmere socks. You can see that outfit here.
Black Loafers And Black Socks
Black patent loafers look best with socks in my opinion, which is how I styled them here. I love how the patent stands out even more when you’re wearing socks. I’m wearing these black trouser socks, which are stretchy and comfortable. These socks are a great option if you’re looking for socks that aren’t too thick. They come in a pack of three with navy and cream.
These are black patent loafers I’d wear with this outfit. I own the second pair in a different color, which you can see in the first photo of this post.
Loafers And Sock Tights With Jeans
Okay, I am obviously wearing ballet flats here, but these are sock tights that I wear all the time with loafers and ballet flats when it’s cold. If you want a super thin sock option that will still keep you warm, sock tights are perfect! There are so many options when it comes to sock tights. I wear them in black, but I also have a few fun pairs with polka dots. They look nice with denim, and I also love the monochrome type outfit with cream jeans or with work pants.
Winter Whites With Loafers And Sock Tights
I’m wearing ballet flats again here, but this outfit would be so cute with any of the black patent leather loafers I linked above. I would wear plain black sock tights or this fun polka dot pair, which I own and love.
Wool Dress With Black Tights
There are two wool mini dresses I’ve seen recently that would look perfect with tights and loafers. You can see the first one I linked on me here from when I tried it on. I absolutely love this dress, and it would look so chic with black tights and loafers. You could also wear a black blouse, denim shirt, or turtleneck underneath instead of the white blouse. I wrote a blog post on how to wear dresses in the winter if you’re looking for more winter outfit inspiration with dresses.
Patent Brown Loafers With Brown Socks
Brown patent loafers are the perfect option to wear with brown socks, and don’t be afraid if they aren’t an exact match. It’s fun to mix and match different shades of the fun color, whether that’s brown, green, grey, or another color.
My exact loafers are sold out, so I linked a few pairs below that are pretty similar. My sweater is in stock in the cropped version in burgundy, black, or cream, and I’d wear any of those with everything else I’m wearing. You can shop my tote bag here!
Business Casual Outfit With Socks And Loafers
This outfit is several years old, but it’s still one I wear today. Classic black loafers and black trouser socks will never go out of style. I love to wear a blazer with loafers, and this tweed blazer makes the outfit look more elevated. This type of outfit is perfect for work if you work in a business casual office or any office where you can wear jeans.
Loafers And A Trench Coat
You can never go wrong wearing two iconic styles together: loafers and the trench coat. This is the perfect type of outfit for the fall or spring. Either of these loafers are gorgeous on their own, but socks or sock tights are a nice detail. Plus, they’ll help keep your feet warm (or dry)! I own these sock tights, and the polka dots are a fun but a subtle detail that doesn’t feel over the top.
The penny loafers are a classic option. I also love the suede square toe loafers. The braiding on the front of the loafer is really pretty in person.
Work Pants With Sock Tights And Loafers
Tailored work pants are a great match for socks, sock tights, and loafers. Since I don’t have any photos of myself in a work outfit with loafers and sock tights, I put together two outfits below featuring my favorite tailored pants. Click here to see a video of me wearing these pants.
Tailored Pants With Matching Sweater
The second outfit in the photo above is one of my favorites. Monochrome outfits are a super chic way to power dress, especially for work, and the tailored cut of the pants gives your outfit authority. Different textures are always good to use when you’re wearing the same color to help create dimension to your look. The sweater I styled with the pants above is a classic cashmere sweater, but brushed cashmere is everywhere right now and would also look beautiful.
Blazer And Loafers
Styling a blazer with loafers, socks, and jeans is a classic look. You can wear this outfit anywhere, including to work or for a day-to-night look. Styling blazers casually is one of my favorite ways to wear them, but they’re so versatile you can wear them to work just the same, especially with loafers. There are lots of different textures in this outfit, and the vertical stripes on the simple top both elevate it and help elongate your torso. If you’re looking to elongate your legs, go for a cropped blazer and a plain top!
