Whether you’re celebrating New Years Eve or something else, I wanted to share a few more festive and fun outfit ideas for the holiday season! Like most everyone I know, I am staying home this New Years Eve, but there’s no reason you can’t still dress up!
First up are these fun mini dresses paired with kitten heels or boots — or a strappy high heel for something a little dressier.
J.Crew shirtdress in leafy jacquard, Kate Spade Marseille slingback pumps at Bloomingdales, Pomander Place red Kenzo tiered mini dress at Tuckernuck, Loeffler Randall Emilia pleated knot sandal in gold, Zara plaid dress, H&M suede knee-high boots, Blondo Velma in black suede, Aqua mock neck semi sheer dress at Bloomingdales, Zara metallic heeled tall boots
LIKELY Alia dress at Shopbop, Gucci Marmont open-toe sandals, H&M puff-sleeved dress in red, Pomander Place black Reese mini dress, J.Crew Sophia satin mules with bow, Bardot Bellissa Metallic Plissé Dress at Bloomingdales, Schutz Nita strappy sigh heel sandals, Topshop Star Mesh Long Sleeves Minidress
The holiday season is such a fun time to wear sequins and velvet. I’ve seen a lot of both this year. While I’m not someone who seeks out sequins, I have this really fun top that I got a few years ago at Topshop (not the best picture, but sharing it below). I think it would be perfect to wear with jeans so that it’s a little more low key than a full sequin New Years Eve type of outfit — so I picked a few similar tops that I think would pair well with jeans.
BB Dakota starry night sequin skirt, Tory Burch cashmere sweater with sequins, H&M wide-leg sequin pants, COS long-sleeve oversized sequinned dress, Mango velvet jogger pants, Alice & Olivia Avila sequin crew neck blouson sleeve top at Shopbop, H&M v-neck velour dress, Club Monaco collarless party blazer
Zara straight cut sequin dress, Zara combination velvet top, Aqua sequined-crepe jumpsuit at Bloomingdales, Zara velvet jogging pants, J.Crew stretch velvet leggings, J.Crew scrunchie headband in velvet, H&M sequined blouse
I didn’t match each piece into an outfit for the velvet and sequin pieces I found because I think they can each be worn in a lot of different ways. For sequin tops, you can pair them with matching sequin bottoms (pants or a skirt – probably with strappy heels) or wear them with jeans (blue or black – I would probably go for a bootie) for a more casual look. I have the same idea for sequin pants – pair with a matching top or maybe a neutral sweater. As for the velvet top I included, it would pair well with black skinny jeans and knee high boots with a heel.
Velvet joggers! I love these, and I included two pairs. They look so comfortable, and I think they’re just right for a New Years Eve at home. My thoughts are the same about the J.Crew velvet leggings. You could wear any of these pants with a wool or cashmere sweater or a chambray top. (By the way- I would also wear sequin pants with a chambray top for a more casual look.) I would go for an oversize sweater with the leggings. Most any pair of shoes will do the trick – flats, sneakers, or booties.
The Tory Burch cashmere sweater with sequin elbow pads is such a good idea for a sweater, especially for someone who is staying at home but still wants to wear something a little fun without getting fully dressed up. I linked to the Tory Burch website above, but this sweater is also available at Bloomingdales in pink and camel.
I included two sequin dresses that I would absolutely wear myself but I don’t have a reason to right now! I love the relaxed fit of both of them. I would probably pair the Zara sleeveless sequin dress with a black or white turtleneck underneath for extra warmth, but I love that you can also wear it without a sweater for a dressier look. Pair with booties or knee high boots, but I think both of these dresses deserve a heel. You will also see a velvet mini dress – I would wear this with tights and combat boots or tights and over the knee boots like the pair I’m wearing with my blazer dress.
Last but not least – the velvet scrunchie headband would make the perfect accessory to any outfit – whether you pick a mini dress, a midi dress, or a sweater/top and jeans.
Next up are blazer dresses. Blazer dresses are one of my favorite things to wear in the colder months – whether you’re heading to dinner or a fun night out. They are so easy to style and you can find them in a variety of lengths. You can wear over the knee boots, strappy sandals, or combat boots — I also wear this tweed blazer dress with tights and combat boots for an edgier look.
Zara velvet blazer dress, The Kooples tweed jacket dress, H&M jacket dress, Self-Portrait double-breasted corded lace-trimmed crepe mini dress at Net-a-Porter, D-Ring Belted Mini Blazer Dress at & Other Stories, Zara box pleat blazer dress, 1.STATE velvet long sleeve blazer cocktail dress
Last but not least… Slip skirts and slip dresses are one of my favorite things to dress up or down, so you can create any type of festive and fun outfit you want to meet your level of party (mine is low key this year, BTW). I shared a few outfit ideas with slip dresses here. The one in the photo at the top of this post is one of the All Saints combinations I just linked to, and I paired it with an oversized Zara sweater instead of the green sweater it comes with.
While I am definitely a fan of an all black slip dress/sweater combination, I think a white, silver, or cream slip skirt or slip dress with a white, tan, or beige sweater is perfect for celebrating New Years Eve. You could also pair a silver slip skirt or dress with a gray sweater. These combinations just scream I’m ready for the new year to me (and aren’t we all ready for that?!) I love to wear booties or over the knee boots with slip skirts/dresses, but each of these outfits would look great with a pump or strappy heel too!
Zara wool blend sweater in ecru, Zara high collar knit sweater in ecru, & Other Stories oversized wool blend sweater, Galvan valletta satin midi skirt in white, & Other Stories oversized alpaca blend relaxed sweater, Anine Bing Noel grosgrain-trimmed silk-satin skirt in ivory, Loft shimmer flowy midi skirt, Max Mara leisure washed-satin midi skirt
I hope this was helpful, fashion lovers. Happy holidays!
