Hi there! Can you believe it’s October? I remember in late summer when I was waiting for fall temperatures, and they’re finally starting to show up! I especially love this time of the year for fashion. I have good news for all of us neutral lovers – brown is still in this fall! If you’ve been here before, you know I think you should wear what makes you feel happy and confident, no matter the trends. It does make it a little easier to find options when what you love happens to be on trend too!

How to Wear Brown This Fall
Okay, there are so many different ways to wear this gorgeous neutral. You can wear a brown cardigan, a brown dress, brown trouser pants, brown leather pants, brown boots, or even brown denim. A brown blazer is one of my favorite pieces in my closet. You can wear many of these pieces together or style them separately, but the point is, there are so many options. Brown pieces will do a lot of work in your closet for the fall winter seasons. Let’s look at a few outfits and outfit ideas, and let me know what you think!
Brown Top and Jeans: The Every Day Outfit
Let’s start with the easiest outfit! A brown sweater, your favorite pair of jeans, and ballet flats. You can wear this anywhere. In the photos below, I wore this for a morning coffee run with my family, and it was super comfortable and practical to be able to move baby around!
I know ballet flats are on trend right now, but they’re a wardrobe staple that will never go out of style. I linked two pairs that I think are cute. I just purchased these jeans, and I really love them. I think their quality is the same as some of the more expensive brands for half the price. There is just enough stretch! I’m wearing the color 5 Yrs Kiss N Tell Bl in regular. They run true to size, but if you’re between sizes, go up one size.

Brown Pleated Skirt Outfit
Brown skirts are back and popular once again! They come in all different lengths and cuts, and they are a good option for fall and winter because you can wear them with any type of shoe. So, wear them now with your ballet flats, loafers, sneakers, or booties – and then when it gets colder, style them with knee high or over the knee boots. There’s a photo of that outfit later in my blog post.
Before we get to that look, see right below and just above for how I wore this type of skirt at the start of fall. This jacket has been one of my most clicked on pieces I’ve ever shared. While it is old, I did find one that is a very, very similar option – down to the chambray piping – and it’s a really good price-point. It’s even reversible like mine, and the colors on the opposite side are darker like mine.
I also love these skirts if a pleated skirt is not your thing!
What Colors To Wear With Brown
There are a lot of brown pieces I mentioned above, so let’s pick things to wear with your favorites! One of the things I love about brown is it goes with just as many things as black.

How to Wear Brown and Blue
One of my favorite outfits from last year is the brown pleated skirt with a bright blue sweater. Yes, gals, again. I’m wearing the brown pleated skirt again, haha. Let’s move on from the skirt though!
I wouldn’t wear a dark royal blue with brown, but I love the softer blue shades like the blouse in the outfit idea below. I’ve had my eye on these brown jeans forever, and I think I may have to finally cave since they’re on sale right now. They will look so cute with neutral sweaters too. I picked these sweet freshwater pearl pieces because I love them in contrast with the edgier brown jeans.
Brown blazers are a closet staple if you ask me. If you prefer to wear a brown top instead of brown pants, then a blazer is a good option. I always turn to blazers to complete my outfits. The look below is a prime example of how a blazer can take a nice year-round skirt and button-up outfit and totally change it to a fall look. Pair with knee high boots and a suede belt. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different shades of brown within the same outfit like I did below! I love to do this. Different materials – like the wool blazer and the suede belt – also helps it all work together.
The cashmere socks are to keep your feet cozy as the weather gets colder. They go on and off sale quite a bit, so definitely check to make sure they’re on sale before purchasing. I bought the brown pair in the photo below at 40% off recently. I love the color in person.
Brown and Light Neutrals
Brown also looks nice with lighter neutrals like these! I really lean towards neutrals because they’re what look the best on me. If you like more color in your outfits, then I would also pair a dark green with brown – like this cute cardigan!

One of the best things about fall is you can still wear a lot of dresses without needing tights! Brown dresses are on-trend and pair perfectly with neutral boots, ballet flats, loafers, or sneakers. Here are a few I’ve seen that I think you can get a lot of wear out of.

Matching sets are such a dream! You can mix and match them with other pieces in your closet, especially a neutral like this set. I like this look with boots, but you could also wear this much more casually with sneakers.
The Brown Sweater Blazer Outfit You Can Wear Anywhere
We all need outfits we feel good in and we can wear pretty much anywhere. That’s this look! I picked the suede Tory Burch loafers to go with a lot of outfits because I think it’s important to be able to wear closet staple shoes like this in a lot of different ways. I would definitely wear them with a pleated or slip skirt too.
