How to Style Nordstrom Sale Closet Staples

Hello, hello! Welcome back! Today, we are looking at closet staples included in the Nordstrom sale and how to style them. If you want to shop the Nordstrom sale, but you aren’t sure where to begin since there are so many options, you’ve come to the right place! Below are my top picks from the sale for someone who only needs essentials or who is working on building a capsule wardrobe. Basically, my thought process behind each piece is, can I wear this more than one way, and can I wear this for work and the weekend? The answer had to be yes.

Since these are pieces I consider essentials, I already own most of them and wear them often, so the photos I included are of me wearing these pieces in real life. The layering top I’m wearing is the exact top included in the sale. All other pieces are examples of how I have styled items.

I hope this post helps if you’re only looking for the essentials (or one or two of them). These are commissionable links, so if you shop through my link, I will earn a commission at no cost to you. Thank you for being here!

Blazer

A black or beige blazer is my favorite and most worn closet essential. I turn to blazers to complete my outfit so much it’s kind of ridiculous, but they are the hardest working piece in my closet. Below is a casual look with a beige blazer. I also love to wear this on a date night or a city vacation! The black blazer and the brown blazer I linked below are on my sale wishlist!

Slip Skirt or Pleated Skirt

A slip skirt or a pleated skirt largely serve the same purpose as each other, and you can wear them both to work – in every season of the year – or on the weekend with sneakers or sandals.

Layering Shirt

I love this long sleeve top so much. I own this exact top in white! If you’re pregnant, I can’t recommend this top enough. It is very oversized, so I suggest getting your regular size if you’re pregnant and sizing down one size if you are not. You can see me in this top below paired with a pleated skirt and jacket in the fall (I was pregnant in this photo), here with jeans, here with leggings for a super comfy look, and here by itself! Clearly, I wear this a lot in the fall and winter. This top also comes in black and a pretty green.

Leather Jacket

I love a leather jacket to spice up an otherwise girly outfit, especially paired with a skirt (see below). Leather jackets are definitely more of a weekend vibe, but you can certainly wear them into the office and leave it at your desk for the commute home – they are also perfect to take your work appropriate outfit into cocktail hour or dinner!

A Pair of Jeans

If you’re anything like me, you don’t love shopping for jeans. While jeans are easily my favorite thing to throw on, I absolutely hate shopping for them. I end up needing to try tons of different brands and sizes, so buying jeans during a sale is always my first choice. Plus, the denim included in this year’s sale is really good – I love brands like Mother and Seven, and they’re both normally quite pricey. The pairs below are what I am hoping to scoop up myself!

If you’re pregnant but not ready for maternity jeans, or if you are postpartum, I highly recommend trying out the jeans below. I wore Wit & Wisdom jeans early in pregnancy and postpartum, and they are so comfortable but you still feel like a human.

Cardigan

Okay, a cardigan is a must have for me because it gets quite cold here in the winter. Plus, I think cardigans are perfect for fall and spring layering. Click here to see the cardigan I love that is included in the Nordstrom sale. But, I have to say, the price point is very expensive for a sale, and there are so many cashmere cardigans out there that look the same. In fact, I have one that I highly, highly recommend, and it’s non-sale price is cheaper than the one I linked above. So, unless you really want that particular brand, I would actually go for this one, which I’m wearing below. I wear it all fall, winter, and early spring. And it comes in the perfect neutrals: black, gray, cream, and tan. I’m planning to pick up another one this fall.

Also, as you can see below, my cardigan is bump friendly. I’m wearing a size small, but you may consider sizing down one size as it does run oversized. Click here if you want to see how I wore it with a slip skirt once baby was here! You can easily recreate this outfit with the black slip skirt included in the sale, too, which I linked at the top of this post.

How to Style Nordstrom Sale Closet Staples

Of course, there are many other items in the sale that you could consider a closet staple, especially when it comes to shoes, but I wanted to keep this post as succinct as possible! I hope this helps!
