Hi there! Welcome! Thank you for stopping by today. I’ve been excited to write this post because I often dress in monochrome! There is just something about wearing a monochrome look that makes me feel confident and happy. So, I wanted to share a roundup of aesthetic monochrome outfit ideas – most importantly, these outfits are easy to wear and you’ll feel good in them. There are looks for everything. From work, the weekend, a city trip, date night, or just something you can wear in your normal routine.
It’s definitely the best time of the year for monochrome looks if you ask me. Fall and winter means layering and lots of different textures, which are key to monochrome!

Eleven Aesthetic Monochrome Outfit Ideas
On-Trend in Brown Monochrome for Work, Weekend, or Vacation
I love brown as an alternative to black. Brown is trending again this fall, and it is definitely not something that I see going out of style. I do like to wear black, but sometimes I feel like it makes me look like I haven’t seen the sun in a few years, ha. Anyway, brown, camels, beiges, and tans can be worn together for a monochrome look – you don’t have to stick to the exact same shade to get a monochrome look. They’re all in the same color family.
Outfit Details:
Okay, I want to share details about this look. It was one of my favorites from my trip to London last fall. This outfit is a good option to pack for a fall or winter city vacation, whether you’re heading to Europe, New York, DC, Boston, or somewhere else in the US! The layers work really well for fall, winter, and even spring.
My brown sweater is all wool, which is something I look for when I shop for sweaters – I want to make sure it’s warm and it will hold up with wear. My sweater (shop this year’s version here) is perfect to layer with since it’s not bulky. These dark brown jeans and dark brown leather boots (mine are old, but this pair is gorgeous) worked for a bit of contrast in tones. If you need a tan coat, I love the one I’m wearing and they’ve brought it back this year! I sized down one size.
In fact, I actually ordered this pair of jeans by accident! I meant to order a slimmer fit in the same color, but I ended up absolutely loving this pair. You can see how I styled them here and here too. I want to share a little sizing tip on these jeans – I am 5’4, and I ordered the short. They run true to size, but I recommend ordering the short if you’re my height or shorter.
PS – Everyone’s personal styles are different, so maybe you prefer a black and white monochromatic style instead of a single color palette! I recreated my look with the same coat, sweater, jeans (the black pair have a raw hem), and bag. Okay, now I love this look, ha.
Monochrome Work Outfits for Big Meetings or Interviews
If you want to take the stress out of getting ready for work in the morning, a monochrome outfit is the answer. It’s the perfect type of outfit for a big meeting, an interview, or any other work event where you need to go a step above your normal workwear. I can remember several big days at work where I dressed in monochrome so I didn’t have to worry about my outfit. But, I would wear a monochrome outfit to any regular office day too! Click here to see an example of an outfit I love for work that’s a cream monochrome. These pants come in a few options for colors, and they’re perfectly tailored. I really love the cream, tan, or black for a monochrome work outfit, especially with a blazer or sweater. Sharing a few shoes below that I would wear with this look.
Grey Monochrome for Fall and Winter
Grey is another good alternative to black. I wore this look for a little walk with my family to get coffee and breakfast. It’s a nice option for a casual Friday at work, a weekend trip for wine tasting, or brunch with friends. I love outfits like this because you can wear them anywhere! Neutral pieces are a great way to add options to your wardrobe that you can wear in multiple ways, whether you wear them together or as separates. While my outfit is made up of older pieces, this look is really easy to recreate!
All Black Monochrome Look For Anywhere
Okay, this sweater blazer is absolutely gorgeous in person, and I was so excited to add it to my closet. It’s a versatile piece that you can wear to work or for the weekend. I actually really love it to help create an elevated travel look too (pair it with these sweater pants) – it is really that comfortable. Click here to see how it looks on me with blue jeans.
Full Denim Outfit With Ballet Flats
While I don’t purchase pieces based on trends, denim on denim looks are very in right now and I love them. I’m super pregnant in the photo below, which is from 2022. I chose this photo to show how I think denim on denim looks are a classic! I wore this outfit in 2022, and I still wear it now! Also, I feel like I say that a lot right now about pieces that are considered on-trend like ballet flats, blazers, loafers, and now denim looks. But, it’s because what’s on trend right now is also classic, which I love! It means these pieces can stay in our closets for years to come .
I recreated this look with the items below. My skinny jeans were maternity jeans! I just sized up in a regular fit denim button up to accommodate my bump.
Pleated Grey Skirt and Grey Cashmere Top
There’s something so classic and polished about a pleated skirt outfit. This grey cashmere top is beautiful in person – I saw it during a quick visit to the store and made a mental note to look at it later, ha! Anyway, I would wear this outfit to the office, especially on days where you have plans after work. But, I also like to wear this type of look to dinner or a lunch date with a friend or family. You can change the vibe of this look by wearing more casual shoes, too, like sneakers. PS – don’t be afraid of how these tones of grey aren’t an exact match! Monochrome outfits don’t have to be the exact same shade of a single color.
Versatile Black Dress And Black Boots Outfit
This dress is on sale and it’s another 20% off with code YOUROCK. It’s a piece that you can turn to time after time for work and weekend. You can layer it in the winter or wear it without a jacket in the spring and early fall. I would pair it with black boots for the colder months. For other seasons, you can wear sneakers or loafers when you don’t have to worry about keeping your feet warm! The suede boots will add depth and dimension to the outfit since they’re a totally different material than the dress.
Brown Monochrome for Your Every Day Or Travel
If you like casual outfits, this one is for you. Monochromatic outfits also work with loungewear! Whether you are running out the door for errands on the weekend, doing school drop off, taking your dog for a walk, or getting on a plane, this outfit is super comfortable and put together. Everything this brand makes is incredibly soft! The neutral colors are easy to mix and match, too. I love to wear chunky boots with sweatpants, so I included a pair here that look similar to mine (which are super old). This pair is rain resistant, which makes them perfect for wearing with anything you might get up to in this outfit! I linked them below in two different leather options.
Casual Linen Dress And Cotton Button Up For Summer, Fall, and Spring
I’ve been wearing this dress all spring and summer, and I’m also wearing it into fall now. It’s easy to create a monochrome look with this dress by adding a white or cream button up over it. You could also add a lightweight jacket to get the same look. Shop my dress here (size down one size), my shirt here (size down one size), my bag here, my sunglasses here, and similar shoes here!
Green Monochrome Matching Set
Matching sets make great fall outfits, and they’re especially nice for fall and winter travel. Sweater and pants or a sweatshirt and pants, and you’re out the door! Okay, it definitely doesn’t go that smoothly in my house. But, knowing what I’m going to wear helps streamline the packing process for sure. These sets are also a good option for running errands or if you’re working from home.
Slip Skirt With Multiple Matching Tops
Monochrome fashion works for the office, the weekend, parties, and so many events in between. This last monochrome look you can grab in black, ivory, or dark moss (which is a super dreamy green), and it has matching tops for different occasions. So, you get a base slip skirt that you can really get a ton of use from, and each outfit will create a cohesive look. There are a couple of tops that are work friendly and there’s one that is better suited for date night! You can definitely layer with a blazer for work or a lightweight jacket like this one for a more casual vibe.
