I’m obsessed with this little black dress, which I was gifted by Sezane. It’s an oversized shirt dress, and it’s honestly just the perfect dress to throw on for the weekend or vacation. I love how you can style it in so many different ways. I styled it in both photos you see here for weekend outings in the city, but you can also wear it to dinner. Or, if you’re traveling to the beach or heading to the pool, you can wear this over your swimsuit. Be sure to consider this raffia basket bag to give the whole outfit a summer vibe. Black Maxi Skirt Outfits
If you’re looking for a piece you can wear to work, vacation, or the weekend, I highly recommend the black maxi skirt I’m wearing. I like it so much I wrote an entire blog post on how to style a long black skirt! I wore this outfit on vacation in Maine, and it was perfect for New England summer nights. I’ve also worn this look during the day here in DC. While I styled this as a monochrome look – I love head to toe black or any other color – you can also pair this beauty with your favorite bright top.
I’m wearing a size 6 petite in the skirt – I went with petite for my height. if you’re 5’4 or shorter, you should go with the petite option too! These slingback shoes are also a favorite of mine, and they’re so comfortable.

A classic black and white t-shirt is the perfect piece to wear with linen pants, shorts, or even jeans throughout the summer. I love this t-shirt – I’ve worn it many times, and I wash and dry it without any issues. I bought size small. If you’re between sizes, size down! I like to wear this t-shirt with blue denim. This is the exact pair I’m wearing, but I love all of the different washes. But, it would also look nice with white or black jeans. This type of outfit is easy to put together. It goes with just about any pair of shoes you want, especially if you’re wearing jeans.
Black Sleeveless Midi Dress
If you’re in the part of the world where you can wear a sleeveless dress with a little bit of a mockneck, then this dress is perfect for you. This would be so nice for a special event or even to wear to work. It’s one of those dresses that feels super versatile, and you can dress it up or wear it casually based on your needs. I’ve been eyeing this option for myself, honestly, because it’s the type of dress you can wear into fall and again in the spring. PS if you love brown like me, it also comes in a beautiful brown!

Okay, if you’re wondering why I would include a dress with sleeves for summer, there are so many reasons! First, as I get older, I prefer to have options with sleeves to help keep my skin healthy. Plus, you can wear these dresses in the fall too. Win-win! I also picked these dresses because I thought they were versatile enough to wear to work but also to a nice dinner on the weekend. I would wear a black tank top or t-shirt under the linen button up in case you get hot, but you can easily wear the button up, well, buttoned up! I’m not a fan of traveling in sandals, but this outfit would be perfect to pair with these slides once you reach your destination if you’re going somewhere warm.

I love dresses like this because you can change your whole look just by changing up your shoes. I would wear this with espadrilles, sneakers, or flat sandals. This dress is an ideal option for an outdoor brunch! You will keep cool but also look super chic and polished. Accessorize with a raffia bag to keep it really summery.
A Couple Of Tips On How To Wear Black In Summer
Stick to lightweight fabrics like cotton and linen. Summer is the perfect time to wear linen and cotton because they’ll keep you cool – even if you’re wearing a darker color like black or navy. My black linen pants are so lightweight, and choosing a light fabric will make a huge difference in how warm you feel. Somehow, I’m still surprised by how much better I feel when I wear linen pants instead of denim in the heat!
