Boots I’m Wearing with Dresses This Fall

Shoes are one of my favorite things, fashion lovers, and more specifically, boots! Here in Washington, D.C. our days typically stay a little warmer for a little longer. But, we’ve already had several days that were just perfect for boot weather, and boot season will be in full swing before we know it.

I’ve been looking for a pair or two that will help me get more outfits out of the clothes I already own. I thought I’d share what I came across with you – as well as how I style boots I already own – since many of you voted to see an edit of styling dresses and boots in the fall. I separated this post into categories of boots because there are so many different types. You’ll find both investment boots and more affordable options depending on the category, and a few other ways to style each boot.

How I wear them: I’m wearing mine in this photo with a midi dress. It was the perfect combination for a warmer than average fall day. Last year, I wore these with a tweed blazer dress and tights, and I will probably do that again this winter. There are so many blazer dresses out there, but I found two from Revolve that I would wear and at different price points – linked here and here.

While these aren’t combat boots, I also pair my chunky boots with midi dresses throughout the spring and fall, including the dress from this photo.

How I wear them: I love knee high boots with almost any midi or longer dress like the one pictured. These boots also work with a wrap dress that might hit at or above the knee (something you could wear to the office.) You can pair with or without tights! This coat dress from Zara and these two floral print dresses from Mango are other examples of long dresses I’d wear with knee high boots.

When it gets colder out, this type of boot is a perfect match for a gray, ecru, camel, or black sweater dress that hits at or around your knee. They might also be cozy with a longer sweater dress like this one. And, just like my combat boots, I wear these boots with a blazer dress. While this section is about knee high boots, I’d also wear these outfits with over the knee boots like this pair or this pair. Once it’s colder outside, I’ll be sure to share more examples of dresses with over the knee boots!

How I wear them: I wear these print boots as a neutral, so I’ll really wear them with anything! Recently, I paired them with a dark green slip dress that hits around the middle of my calf. These boots would also be a fun touch to a black dress – whether midi or mini. I know we’re talking dresses here, but I’d also wear these boots with a leather midi skirt like this one and a cashmere sweater.

How I wear them: With just about any dress! Before it’s too cold outside, I would wear either of the above booties with a dress that hits around the knee and a duster sweater (like numbers 1, 2, and 3 above). During the colder months, just add tights. Beige or black booties will also work with a flowy dress by itself (like number 6 above) or paired with a denim/leather jacket. If you are looking for a solid dress, I also found a blush dress with gorgeous lace detail at Tuckernuck, which I would wear with tan suede booties.

Thanks for coming by, fashion lovers. See you next time!
