10 Casual Mom Outfits

Hi there! Welcome! I’m writing this on a Wednesday, and it already feels like it should be Friday! Don’t you just love those weeks, ha! Anyway, since becoming a mom, I felt like I needed to get to know my style all over again. I’ve always been very confident about what I like and what doesn’t suit me when it comes to my personal style, but I felt like I reconsidered a lot of what I used to love. Plus, my life and body look a little different now! I’m not in an office every single day, and I need to be in something that I’m comfortable in for moving baby things around and running errands.

With a one year old, I still consider myself a new mom. But, I feel like I’ve gotten a hang of what works and what doesn’t work for me when it comes to outfits. I still like to wear things that make me feel chic and happy. And, to be clear, sometimes that means loungewear and sometimes that means a nice dress. Either way, being a mom does not mean you can’t look and feel great in your outfits. In fact, it’s the opposite. For me, I want to feel stylish in what I’m wearing for me! It makes me happy!

Before I dive in and share some outfits, I want to add that I lived in pajamas and postpartum clothes for quite some time after having my little babe. I couldn’t even look at jeans, and the thought of putting on real shoes made me cringe. So, please know that this post isn’t meant to make you feel like you should rush you back into your normal clothes – I certainly took my time!

Okay, here are some looks you can wear as a busy mom and still feel stylish.

Cotton Shirtdress With Sleeves

A shirtdress is a closet staple to me, so I think it deserves an entire look here! This particular shirtdress comes in black, white, blue stripes, and a really pretty green. I love that it has sleeves and some forgiveness around the midsection! I’m eyeing this in white for myself for late spring and summer, which is I created a look below with this dress and how I’d wear it. I just got these sneakers in (unfortunately, I picked the wrong size), and they’re really pretty! I do love this outfit with loafers though, and they dress up the look quite a bit!

Spring Date Night Outfit

I recently wore this look out to dinner and a comedy show with my husband, but this top is comfortable enough to wear if our little babe had come with us. The top is something I’ll be able to wear again and again! I‘ve also styled it with these crepe pants, which are the perfect weight for spring too. Mom outfits can be date night looks too! There’s nothing better than a super versatile look or piece of clothing.

Comfortable And Chic Sweatshirt

A comfortable sweatshirt and pants feels like a classic mom outfit for a busy mom, and I think this look can be super cute. This sweatshirt is one of my favorite and most worn purchases recently. I picked a fun pastel blue for spring, but I love the neutral options too. I’ve had the brown one in my cart for awhile! It’s on sale at the time of writing. Pair this with denim like I did, or wear it with trousers (I own and love this pair), a skirt, or just sweatpants. These are my favorite sweatpants at the moment, and you can see what it all looks like on me here!

Anyway, your bottoms and shoes all depend on what you’re getting up to! Sneakers or flats are tried and true for any of these looks though!

Fall and Winter Outfit For Errands & Lunch With Your Children

I wore this outfit on a day full of errands, and then a lunch with my mom and baby. I knew I wasn’t going to shower that day, so I wanted an outfit that worked with a baseball cap. The easiest fall, winter, and early spring outfit idea for me is jeans, a comfortable sweater, shoes I can walk in, and a hat. Voila! The final product is below. My exact sweater and boots are old, but this look is easy to recreate!

Summer Dress For Kid’s Birthday Party

Summer is my least favorite season to dress for because it gets so, so humid here! My friends and I live in dresses when we are going to be outside, so I wanted to include cute, casual dresses for a summer birthday party with kids. I rely on midi dresses because I feel like I can still move in them and do whatever I need to do with my little one.

My exact dress is J.Crew from last year, but there are already some options that are great for spring and summer. I also prefer dresses with some sort of sleeve, so I included those too.

Favorite Button Up And Jeans

If you need to look put together but also be comfortable, you can always turn to a button up and a nice pair of jeans. I love this type of outfit because it’s a look I’ve been wearing even before I was a mom, so I feel like me in it! Anyway, there’s nothing better than feeling confident in an outfit that you can truly move around in and not feel like you need to readjust in any way. I hate when I feel like I need to fix something on my outfit while I’m out with my babe!

I love how the buttons on this button up are covered. It gives the top a bit of an elevated look. My jeans are sold out in the exact wash I’m wearing, but I linked another wash that looks very similar to me. I love the cut of this jean, and I reach for them a lot. They look really nice with spring and summer shoes! Click here to see them on me with sandals. If you’re looking for good denim options, I wrote a blog post about what is in a capsule wardrobe that covers my favorite jeans.

Elevated Loungewear Look

I think there are different levels of loungewear look, and the matching sets and other pieces Varley make are so gorgeous. These sweatpants – if you can even call them that – are one of my favorite pairs of pants I own. Not only are they the softest pants I’ve ever felt, they are also super comfortable and make you look GOOD! I could say the same about my top, which is made of the same material.

This casual mom outfit also works for a travel day. I wore it for a longhaul flight from the UK back into DC with my little babe, who was under one at the time. So, I feel like they’ve passed the test for my recommendation!

Sneakers and Socks With Your Favorite Leggings

There’s really nothing more comfortable than your favorite exercise pants, cozy socks, and comfortable sneakers. Plus, this look is on-trend right now! I wear this type of look all the time for running errands, and it’s another good option for travel. These Lululemon leggings are my go-to pants for travel.

Elevated Everyday Dress

I love the detail on this dress at the waist. It looks so flattering! It will be cute with a lady jacket or a cropped jacket while it’s spring. I’m planning to wear this one.

This dress feels like a twist on a classic black or white summer dress that you throw on and wear anywhere. I think it would look really nice with a pendant necklace or dainty chain! Use code YOUROCK for 20% off the black mesh espadrilles.

Matching Set

A matching lounge set is always an easy and chic look to pull off. There are a lot of them out there right now! Pair with sandals, Ugg boots, or sneakers. The cozier, the better! You can wear this cardigan buttoned up or wear it open with a comfortable crewneck t-shirt under it.

I love to elevate this type of outfit with nice accessories like earrings, a favorite bag, sunglasses, or a dainty necklace.
