Hello, hello! Thanks so much for stopping by today. I recently put up a question box on my Instagram, and one of you lovely gals replied about wanting help with styling dresses for work and weekend. One of the things I always talk about is versatility in clothes, and there’s really nothing better than a dress you can wear to work and on the weekend! So, that’s what today’s post is about.

Dresses to Wear to Work and on the Weekend
Casual Dress Outfits For Work And Dresses You Can Rewear For Events
If you’re looking for a casual dress outfits, there are a lot of options here! I’ve also included dresses that you can wear to work as well as a special occasion on the weekend. Sometimes I love to pick out a new dress for a special occasion, but sometimes it’s nice to have one already in your closet that you can wear for work too. So, there’s a lot of optons in today’s post!
A-Line Midi Dress With Belt
Okay, this first dress is a great example of something you can wear to work, to an event, and to dinner with a friend – I’ve worn it to the latter two. But, if I were still in the office every day, this would be a dress in my work rotation. If you’re a pear shape like me, an a-line dress like the one I’m wearing is a great option. It cinches and highlights your natural waist. I love the belt that comes with this dress, but you can also remove it and add your own to change the feel of the outfit. I’m excited to wear it with a raffia belt (like this one) to give it a summer vibe.

If you’re wondering about the fabric, it’s 100 percent organic cotton. One of the reasons I purchased this dress is because it’s so soft and lightweight, which means you can wear it in the spring, summer, and fall. There’s nothing better than a dress that works with sandals, ballet flats, and boots!
Cap Sleeve Linen Dress With Belt
I bought this cap sleeve dress for a very special occasion, but it’s actually perfect for work. It comes in a gorgeous navy blue that I really loved, but I needed white for my event. You can’t go wrong with either color though. You can see my sweater on a chair in the background, and I love how these cap sleeves fit under a sweater. That means you can layer to keep warm on a spring morning, or you can style it as a skirt. I sized up in this dress, so if you’re between sizes, be sure to size up!

Denim Shift Dress
This denim shift dress is adorable and chic. It’s one of those dresses that’s a chameleon because you can style it in so many ways. You can wear it with a button up under it, you can wear a sweater, cardigan or blazer over it, or you can wear it by itself! I also love how your accessories can take this dress in a different direction too depending on where you’re going. These are my go-to summer sandals! Click here to shop the look.

Linen Shirtdress
A shirtdress is perfect for work and so many things you’d do during the day on the weekend. Since summer is around the corner as I write this, I’m sharing my favorite linen shirtdress. If you can believe it, I use this shirtdress as a swimsuit cover up just as much as I wore it to work! It’s that versatile. I typically just add a belt and wear ballet flats or slingbacks when I want to wear this dress to work.

This year, J.Crew made it a little different with pockets up top, but I’d still style it in the same way. I’ve seen it in store, and it’s really beautiful. The colors are so good this year – natural (like what I’m wearing), a light olive green, and black! I basically live in these linen button down dresses during the height of hot summer days. Mine was bump friendly – I’m very pregnant in the photo above – at that point, side photos and forward facing photos were different, ha!
The A-Line Linen Dress
My exact dress is old from J.Crew, but I found a midi version from Quince that I would definitely consider if you’re looking for a dress in this style. I love how easy it is style for work, the weekend, or even a special occasion. You can still style the Quince one in the same way I styled mine – just add a classic fit button up for work. For the weekend, I love to add a linen or cotton t-shirt – or wear the dress by itself.

Midi V-Neck Dress
A v-neck midi dress is another perfect example of a dress that can be styled for work and casual outfits. My dress is old from Everlane, but they made a very similar one this year and it also comes in this cream color option as well as a couple of others.
I actually put together an entire reel on different ways to style this cut of dress because it’s so versatile. I love it with this button up under it for work. (The button up was gifted to me). I also love how the dress looks with a leather jacket for spring and fall.

Black Linen Dress With Belt
This linen midi dress is a nice option for a casual Friday – depending on where you work. I love how it has sleeves, so you won’t be cold in the air conditioning. It’s an easy dress to style on the weekend too. You can wear this on vacation or just to run errands when it’s warm!

Brown Linen Shift Dress
I recently purchased this dress (click here to see it on me), and it’s just so gorgeous! It is another option I love for a casual summer office day. The sleeves have perforations in them so you won’t be too hot, but you’ll still be covered in the air conditioning. I love how this looks with loafers or raffia ballet flats to add a professional vibe. It runs true to size, but if you’re between sizes then go with your smaller size. I purchased my typical size small. Be sure to sign up for their email list to receive 15% off your first purchase like I did!

Sweater Dress
If you’re looking for a dress for fall and winter, a sweater dress should be on your list. There are so many different types of sweater dresses, which means there are plenty that are work appropriate that you can also wear casually. You can see how I styled this one for family photos, but this dress is also a nice option for work. If you’re wondering if your sweater dress is work appropriate, here are a few things to keep in mind!
- Avoid a sweater dress that’s super form fitting (or form fitting in a way that’s inappropriate for work)
- Opt for a work appropriate material like wool, a wool-blend, or cashmere
- Go for a length that’s okay for the office. A midi, maxi, or something just above the knee is typically fine! If you aren’t sure if your dress length is work appropriate, sit down in it at home or in the store to see if you would feel comfortable wearing it while you’re sitting in a meeting or interview!

Okay, I hope this post is helpful for some outfit ideas for work and the weekend. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter below!
