Hi there! Welcome and thanks so much for stopping by today. Shoes are one of my favorite things about putting together an outfit, and you might be surprised by how many outfits in your closet look nice with loafers. They’re a classic shoe that you can wear to work or with your favorite jeans on the weekend. Plus, they add a touch of sophistication to any look.

So, How Do You Wear Loafers?
If you’re looking for tips on how to wear loafers, I think these few will get you started! There are so many different styles of loafers, which I love because there’s something for everyone! So, my first tip is to choose a pair you love and consider the shape. Loafers have definitely been trending the last couple of years, but make sure you choose a pair that will work with your own closet. I like chunky loafers just as much as I like classic loafers. While I love my loafers that have a rounded toe, I find an almond toe looks the best on me. You can see this shape of loafer in the photo directly below. Click here to shop my exact loafers, which come in tons of different colors and materials. They run true to size, and they are comfortable right out of the box. Anyway, be sure to consider which shape of shoe you think is the most flattering for you.
I also recommend that you pick a color that you can wear to work or on the weekend. Red is a trending color right now for shoes, but I would go with a traditional brown, black, or beige loafer because they’ll go with so much more. Basically, a neutral color! They’re long standing closet heroes!
If you’re wondering where to start with putting together an outfit with loafers, try them with your favorite outfits for work or weekend that you already own. I don’t hesitate to wear my loafers with just about anything. Try them with summer dresses, slip skirts, pleated skirts, jeans, and trousers. They work just as nicely with a business casual look as they do with an outfit for meeting friends on the weekend. You can see several outfits below that work with loafers.
Loafers I Love
Okay, one last thing before we get into outfits. Here are several loafers I love. To be honest, I love most loafers. Whether they are suede loafers, lug sole loafers, tassel loafers, or a woven loafer, I think it’s hard to go wrong with this shoe.
Easy Ways to Style Loafers For Different Occasions
Loafer Work Outfit That You Can Also Wear To Cocktail Hour
You’ll see these loafers in a few outfits in this post or throughout my blog because they’re my go-to loafer. The almond toe gives them a super flattering cut. They look nice with different types of bottoms, but I prefer them with tailored trousers, jeans, or a midi skirt. These loafers are work appropriate, but they’re also cute enough to wear to a weekday happy hour. My blouse also comes in a few other colors. I’m normally a 2 or 4, and I sized down to a 2 based on the website recommendation! These are my favorite tailored trousers that I own (the pair I’m wearing are old).
Loafers With Midi Skirts Or Maxi Skirts
Whether you prefer a slip skirt or a pleated skirt, midi skirts look so good with loafers. Spring, summer, and fall are all perfect seasons to wear these skirts with loafers. Basically, any season where you don’t need boots. I linked a few pairs below that I’d also wear with this black pleated skirt. This skirt is a pretty good chameleon in that it will look nice with a lot of different shapes and materials when it comes to choosing loafers that match. I love how this looks with the lug sole loafers, but the classic pair will also be a beautiful match!
Loafers with socks
One of my favorite ways to wear loafers is with socks – like I am here with this mini skirt and elbow sleeve top. Socks and loafers are just comfortable together! It’s also a practical way to wear loafers if they’re new and feel stiff, or if you need some extra warmth.
I mostly wear my loafers with black socks since my loafers themselves are black, but you could also wear them with another color or pattern depending on your outfit. Another way to style your loafers and socks is with closet staples like I did below. This is one of my go-to types of looks because I feel polished, comfortable, and it doesn’t take me long to get dressed. I love when you don’t have to make decisions when it comes to your outfit!
Loafers with a heel
These loafers have a little twist – a block heel, which definitely elevates your outfit. The loafers below were gifted to me a couple of years ago. Click here to shop them. These are taupe, but they come in several color options. They run true to size in my experience. Anyway, I absolutely loved these shoes for office looks. I actually packed them here for a work trip, and as you can see, I also wore them when I was out and about on my own time.
They’re suede, but I have not had any issue with them when I’ve worn them in the rain. I just brushed the area that got soaked (I got caught in a storm), and it came right out. I also found this pair to be easy to slip on!
Loafers And Jeans
Loafers and jeans are a classic combination that you just can’t mess up! There’s nothing better than a timeless outfit because they’re so easy to put together. You can wear loafers with any type of jeans too. Whether you like skinny jeans or straight leg jeans, pair them with a button down shirt (my favorite button down – size down) for a smart casual look. Loafers are the perfect shoe to wear to achieve an elevated casual outfit.
