Yes! Maxi skirts never seem to go out of style. But, you should wear what you love and what you think looks the best on you! To that end, there are also different types of black maxi skirts. I love the one I’m wearing because an a-line skirt is flattering on my shape, but you might prefer a fitted knit maxi skirt or a satin maxi skirt. I’ve also linked a bunch right here that I love.
What To Wear With Black Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are really versatile, so there isn’t a lot that you can’t wear with them. I’m 5’4, and I find they’re pretty flattering on me even though I’m on the shorter side! I’m wearing the petite size in this skirt, but I could’ve done the regular as well. If you’re worried that the skirt will shorten you because of your height, try out a high waisted maxi skirt like mine or this more fitted skirt, which I also own and love. Anyway, here are a few top pieces that come to mind that I love to wear with maxi skirts that I think you might too!
Denim Jacket
A black maxi skirt matches a lot of different styles of denim jackets, so it’s easy to throw on the style that compliments you the best, and you have a complete look. Layer your denim jacket over a tank top, t-shirt, or button up.
Combat Boots Or Chunky Boots
I’ve worn this skirt in the middle of the summer with sandals, sneakers, and slingback shoes. I wore it in the fall with loafers and ballet flats, and I’m planning to wear it through the winter with all different types of boots. So, while I’m wearing combat boots with my black maxi skirt in the photo above, you can really wear most shoes with a maxi skirt!

As you can see in one of my outfits below, I like wearing linen tops with maxi skirts. The style can range from a classic linen t-shirt to something slightly more polished like a vest.

This skirt is appropriate for nearly every office dress code I can think of. You can even wear this in a formal work environment with a work blouse and blazer or cardigan.

Use a blazer to enhance your waist or make you feel more confident about your midsection – I love to do this. A cropped blazer with a high waisted skirt will help elongate your legs, while a classic fit blazer is perfect to help avoid bringing attention to your midsection. I love how both look – it’s all about what makes you feel the most confident!
Oversized Sweater
I love how an oversized sweater looks with a maxi skirt. You can get away with pretty much any type of shoe, but a pair of boots is the most natural choice in my opinion because it makes the entire outfit feel cozy. This type of outfit looks best with a more fitted or slim cut skirt like a slip skirt. Kitten Heel Shoes
Kitten heels or booties with a low heel are a nice alternative to pumps because they achieve the same elevated feel. I used to love high heels in college, ha, but I really hate them now! They’re just not practical for my life. So, I typically turn to a lower heel to help my outfit feel dressier.

This velvet maxi skirt is the perfect skirt to wear throughout the holidays, but you can wear it all winter too. I styled it here as a party outfit, but the skirt would also go with a blazer or tweed jacket if you want to wear it to work. There are still a lot of outfit options with velvet.
