How to Style A Midi Dress for Summer

Good morning from what has been a mostly warm week here in Washington, DC! The temperatures get quite toasty here, so it’s necessary to have a flowy dress or two on hand for those 80 and 90 degree days. I really love the one I’m talking about today.

This dress is the perfect amount of flowy, but it still has shape to it! It’s a midi dress, so it hits around the mid calf. My favorite thing about is that it’s a linen dress! So, it will keep you cool during the upcoming summer heat, but you can also style it into fall.

How to Style A Midi Dress for Summer And Other Seasons

When I think of summer outfits, linen is top of mind! So, I was excited to think of all the outfits I could create with this one dress. I recently posted a reel of different ways to style this dress, including for brunch, work, every day wear, weekend errands, and more. It’s such a versatile dress! As you can see, I went with the off white option, but it also comes in black. Okay, if you’re wondering about wearing a midi dress, here are a few ways to style this one.

Layer With A Seasonably Appropriate Jacket Or Cardigan

Here in DC, a traditional trench coat, linen trench coat, or a cropped trench coat is perfect to wear over this dress if you’re wearing it on a rainy summer day. But, a light jacket for summer is totally appropriate for evenings in New England – where I have family – and in many other parts of the country! I would also consider a lightweight cardigan like this one and push up the sleeves.

Okay, this dress is super versatile though, so I’m definitely going to wear it past summer months like I’ve styled it here. I love being able to get more wear out of a summer dress than just a couple of months in the year, so a jacket is the perfect solution to this!

The dress lays similar to a slip dress (it’s definitely not as narrow) in that it’s not too tight or too baggy. The silhouette makes it perfect to layer with a lady jacket, a denim jacket, or a leather jacket. I especially love this with a leather jacket for a city vacation to London, New York, LA, or Paris. It’s a nice combination of a feminine dress with an edgy piece.

Wear With A Button Up For Work

I was recently gifted this button up by Sezane, and I’ve been wearing it non-stop. It’s made of incredibly soft cotton and linen, and it honestly just feels super luxurious. Anyway, it looks great under this dress if you want to wear this dress to work! Wear with your work tote bag and timeless ballet flats for a classic outfit. I’m wearing a size 4, which is my normal size. In some instances, I wear a size 2 in Sezane, but you should take your normal size or the size above (if you’re between sizes like me) in this top for it to fit like it fits me here!

Wear With A Leather Bag

I love to mix and match edgier or more masculine pieces with feminine and romantic styles. A linen dress always feels feminine to me, even when it’s a solid dress like the one I’m wearing. In fact, this one also feels romantic because of the subtle flowiness! So, a leather bag feels like you’re giving this romantic dress a little bit of a fun edge to it. I recently viewed this leather bag in Sezane, and I fell in love! It comes in so many good color options I can’t decide which one to get!

I also love the bag I’m carrying in the photos above. It is probably the bag I carry the most. It’s technically a mini bag, but it easily fits all of your essentials and then some. Click here to read more about bags I love for spring and summer.

Dress Up Or Down With Sandals, Ballet Flats, Sneakers, or Heeled Sandals For A Summer Event

Whether you pick up this dress in white or black, it’s a great option for a summer event like a baby shower, a neighborhood picnic, or a Fourth of July gathering. You can wear it with sandals, ballet flats, or heeled sandals to change the vibe of your outfit to fit the event! It’s also long enough that you can wear it to a child’s birthday party and still manage your little ones!

Wear With Sandals And Raffia Bag For A Beach Trip

The most obvious way to wear this dress is with flat sandals! This is the perfect dress to be able to throw on without having to do much, but it has such a nice shape that you will still look put together. You can elevate it with your favorite jewelry and bag. I love how this would look with a chic raffia bag and leather sandals.

Okay, that’s it for today! I hope this gives you some outfit ideas for linen midi dresses!
