Hi there, fashion lover! Fall is just around the corner, and I’m dreaming of pumpkins, boots, and cozy sweaters! BUT, I know we aren’t quite there yet! Today’s outfit is one that you can wear all year by adding or losing layers, but I wanted to show you how I’m wearing it for the end of summer and fall. Plus, sharing all the details on how I picked – what I think – is the perfect shirtdress to wear by itself or to layer.
How to Wear a Shirtdress for Fall
Shop the Look
I’ve been searching for the perfect white shirtdress for quite a bit. I kept finding one I thought would work for different outfits only to find out the design didn’t work for me. For example, a lot of oversized button downs that would work as a shirtdress come with slits that go a little too high up the side, which is not ideal when you want to wear it as a dress! So, I bought this actual shirtdress! I’m wearing size medium tall. I chose tall for length because it looked short on the model, and I’m glad I did! I’m 5’4, and the length worked out just as I was hoping. If you shop this dress, be sure you also select petite, regular, or tall when you select a size!
A few more things on sizing and fit. If I were not dressing for pregnancy, I would’ve ordered size x-small tall. The sleeves are obviously a little longer than they would be if I had ordered my regular size or my pre-pregnancy size, but I just rolled them up, which is something I would’ve done anyway. I also left the last button of the dress unbuttoned, but I definitely did not need to. The dress is not tight at all. It is also super soft!
Oversize Denim Jacket
While I love the dress by itself for a summer look, I am really excited to wear it for fall. I bought this oversize denim jacket from Zara last year, and it fit perfectly over my white shirtdress. A denim jacket paired with this dress will be a good weight for those few weeks before I want something a little heavier.
Blazer and Boots
And speaking of, see below for how to style this dress with a blazer and boots for more of a fall look. You can also actually wear the blazer instead of just draping it over your shoulders like I did.
Vest and Coat
There are so many other ways that I will wear this shirtdress once it’s cooler. It also looks really cute with an oversize sweater vest, a sweater coat, or a teddy vest. I would pair each of these looks with knee high boots. I’ll be sure to share my looks with this dress as I wear it in the cooler weather!
Shop the Look
While I knew I wanted a white shirtdress, you probably saw at the top of this post that this particular dress comes in tons of colors and some patterns! If you want a fun pattern, I’d go for the green striped dress. You can still wear it with different layer options like a tan sweater coat or blazer. I’ve noticed dark pink and the deep, solid green are very on-trend colors for this fall, so those would be great options if you’re looking for something trendier!
Okay, last but not least, you can also click here to see how I styled this shirt dress with a blue sweater vest. It’s an easy and comfortable transitional look too.
