Welcome back, fashion lover! A key part of dressing for spring is layers! I recently picked up a sweater coat from J.Crew. They have two true sweater coats that are great lengths (linked here and here) and a sweater blazer that is shorter, which I also love. But, more about the sweater blazer later! I really love how you can style sweater coats in so many ways. You can dress them up for work or a nice dinner, wear them to the grocery store, wear them on a walk, or really anywhere. So, I’m sharing below a few examples of how I like to style a sweater coat.

The first photo (above) is one of my favorite ways to wear a sweater coat. I would wear any of the outfits I’ll share with you just about anywhere, but as it starts to get a little warmer and people are dining outside, a sweater coat kept closed with a belt is the perfect way to keep the heat of the coat!

Another casual way to style a sweater coat is with a twilly, a t-shirt, jeans, and ballet flats…

I would wear this outfit for just about anything as well. I love how the twilly adds a little something to an otherwise plain outfit. You can read my blog post on twillys here or shop some of my favorites here. For a more dressed up look, I would wear the sweater coat over a slip dress — or a slip skirt and a sweater that are the same color. For example, my sweater coat is a dark tan, so an olive green or black slip skirt and matching sweater would pair well under my sweater coat. It is almost spring, so maybe you’re wearing lighter colors! I would pair this color sweater coat with blues, most pinks, light green, and a lilac purple. I would tuck in the sweater.

Finally, I love to pair a sweater coat with exercise leggings, which is what I’m wearing below. You could also style this with sweatpants instead of leggings. This is the type of look I would wear for an easy – yet put together look – for running errands, the weekend, or a casual lunch. And, for many of us these days, any day of the week. I would also just wear it around the house because it’s just super comfy.

In case you’re curious about the fit of this particular sweater coat, I’m wearing a t-shirt with it in the first two photos, but in the photo above, I’m wearing an oversized sweatshirt. I hate when my sleeves feel too tight in any type of jacket, and one of the perks of this piece is that even my oversized sweatshirt sleeves fit perfectly.

I’m also sharing a few sweater coats below that I’ve seen recently.

Last but not least, I also mentioned sweater blazers at the top of the post. These are also perfect for spring layering. I wear mine for a casual look (pictured below), but I’ve most frequently worn it for work. You can wear it over a shell or a long sleeve blouse with pants or a skirt, and it also falls easily over a dress. These sweater blazers really work with everything. One of my favorite things about this particular one is the pockets. They’re perfect for carrying essentials when you don’t want to take your entire bag with you.
