Hi there, fashion lovers! I recently returned from a trip to LA, and I thought I would do a blog post on what I wore / some ideas for what to pack if you’re also going on a city break. I said this on an Instagram post while I was there, but do you ever wonder why you don’t live somewhere when you’re on vacation there? This is especially true for me for LA. The weather is gorgeous, the food options are endless, and you have access to the beach. It really is the weather for me, though. I could write a novel on why DC weather is so miserable, but let’s discuss something more fun – outfit ideas for a trip to LA!

Outfit Ideas for a Trip to LA

Daytime Outfit

First up are a few easy outfits and outfit ideas for the daytime. These are perfect for shopping, walking around, and food! I always carry a denim jacket with me in LA in case I get cold during the day (not likely) or end up wearing the same outfit at night. I wore this skirt outfit for breakfast and a little bit of exploring. (Denim jacket was with me, but not pictured).

Striped Dress with Loafers

Next up is this dress, which is a staple in my closet. I wear it so much when the weather is right because it’s the perfect casual dress. I actually wore this on a trip to LA before the pandemic! This time, I wore it out and about for shopping and lunch one day. Sadly, it’s old J.Crew, but I’ve linked some other blue and white options below. As for my shoes, I love to pair a feminine dress with loafers for an edgier look. These were/ loafers in general are also a good option for comfort and style when you’re walking around but don’t want to wear sneakers.

Printed Mini Dress

Last but not least, I found this dress when I was shopping and couldn’t wait to wear it! I’m wearing the mini (first link), but it comes in two other styles that I also linked. At the time of writing, the last three dress links are on sale.

Night Out Outfits

Okay, let’s talk about dinner, drinks, night out, etc. outfits. One of the things I love about dressing in LA is how it’s cooler at night, so you can wear what feels like a fall outfit at night, but you can wear a spring or summer outfit during the day. On the first night, I wore a maroon cardigan, black shell, black jeans, and black loafers – I pretty much opted for comfort but still felt very put together. I didn’t get any photos of my look, but linking a cute maroon cardigan here and a black shell here. (PS: Are you wondering why I keep mentioning loafers?! Well, I packed three pairs of shoes, including the pair I wore for the flights – I love to pack as light as possible and focus on including pieces, like shoes or blazers, that I can rewear with fresh tanks or blouses).

I also packed a black blazer that I knew I could wear in more than one way. So, I wore that blazer with a shell (same look seen here!) and I wore it again with this blouse another night.

There are a few other looks I didn’t take photos of (I was very happy to be in the moment), but most are all still available. We did a lot of walking around Santa Monica, Venice, and Marina del Rey, so I wore exercise clothes. I also didn’t take a photo of my airport outfits, but I wore these sweats and this top with a jean jacket. Everything is also linked below!

Sunglasses

Last but not least, you need a good pair of sunglasses in LA! I ordered a pair for my trip and they didn’t come in time, but I was able to find the same pair in a different color in store! I’ve linked them below. I’m wearing the dark tortoise pair in the photo below, and you can see what the lighter tortoise pair look like on me at this link. I loved them both so much that I ended up keeping both pairs – they’re a great price point at $30 and do not feel cheap at all.
