How A Neutral Lover Wears Pastels For Spring

Hi there! How are you? We’ve had a busy week! The weekend is here as I write this post and I’m really looking forward to a quiet one. We’ve had some incredible weather the past week though, which has been wonderful. So, I wanted to put together a blog post on spring looks with a focus on fun pastels.

While I pretty much live in neutral outfits, I’ve always loved adding pastels to my looks for spring. They’re a classic choice in fashion and decor! I love how soft pastel colors are. They aren’t bold like jewel tones, and I think that’s why, as a neutral lover, I can wear pastels! Anyway, there’s always a pastel that stands out to me each spring. This year, I really love this soft yellow that I’m wearing below. Sage green is also a seasonal favorite!

Pastels For Spring

Pastels For Spring

It’s easy to reach for pastels once the weather gets nicer – colorful clothes spark happiness and make me think of other spring things – like garden roses and peonies.

I typically go for something minimal when it comes to pastels – like a pastel blouse with jeans, or a pastel cardigan with a neutral t-shirt and neutral accessories. There are a lot of ways to wear pastels though – you could do a full monochrome look, just a fun handbag, or maybe you’re a neutral lover who opts for something more subtle like pastel nails. However you incorporate pastels into your wardrobe, they’re perfect for the bright, sunny days of spring! Here are a few favorite ways to style pastels.

Pastel dresses for spring

Pastel dresses and spring feel synonymous! Is there a better time to wear a pastel dress! I’ve rounded up several below that I love that you can wear with ballet flats, sneakers, or sandals.

Pastel Striped Linen Dress

This striped linen dress screams spring and summer. If the temperatures aren’t quite warm enough for a dress like this in the spring where you live, this pattern also comes in a button up top. I have this exact button up in last year’s pastel stripe, and I wear it way too often once it’s warm, ha. Anyway, click here to see it on me. I also like to tuck it in with jeans or shorts.

Nap Dress For Easter

The nap dress is something I think about this time of the year because you can wear it with layers or wear it by itself. I like the midi length for spring because I think it makes the most sense to layer with a turtleneck or cardigan, and it also feels the most versatile when it comes to shoes. A nap dress is one of those fashion trends that is staying in style, so it also feels like an investment piece you can wear year after year.

Pastel handbags for spring

A pastel handbag is one of the easiest ways to wear a pastel if you’re a neutral lover who just wants to add a touch of spring to your outfits! Pastel handbags are the perfect way to accessorize a neutral look. I love a monochrome beige or cream outfit with a pastel handbag! I recently wrote a post on cute bags for spring and summer, which also includes some pastel options. So, check out that post for more handbags to wear this time of the year!

Pale Blue Handbag

Okay, so these two pale blue handbags are definitely not the same shade of blue, but they’re both pretty pastel options. I love the fringe on the Chloe bag. It gives this otherwise feminine bag a fun edge. I talk about this Sezane bag more in my blog post on cute bags for spring and summer, but I included it because I love the shape as well as the color.

Both of these bags will look nice against any blue denim, and I would also wear them with a white or cream dress.

Pastel Sweatshirt to Wear at home or out

So, I know I said I love yellow and green pastels this year, but I realize this is the second blue pastel piece I’m sharing. I own this pastel blue sweatshirt, and I’ve been living in it since I received it. It is both beautiful and comfortable. It feels a little silly to say a sweatshirt is beautiful, but I can’t believe how nice the shade of blue is! It screams spring. It works just as well with ballet flats and denim (click here to see how I styled this) as it does with sweatpants and sneakers (click here to see how I styled it this way). And, click here to see how I styled it with tan jeans. See, I wasn’t joking when I said I’ve been wearing it a lot!

I linked shoes below that I think are similar in color to my ballet flats.

Pastel Cardigan Or Pastel Sweater

I’ve been wearing the pastel yellow cardigan at the top of this post non-stop! It’s been the perfect weight for early spring, and I love how there are so many ways to style it. Click here to see a few ideas I put together in a reel. I also love the aptly named wisteria purple in the same cardigan. If you’re looking for an Easter outfit option, a pastel cardigan is a perfect Easter choice and you can wear it over a dress!

A soft blue cashmere crewneck [linked similar to the one I’m wearing above] is another pastel that looks nice with denim. I wore this a few years ago in late February.

Short Sleeve Cashmere Sweater

I keep eyeing these short sleeve cashmere sweaters at J.Crew because I love J.Crew’s cashmere. The pastel yellow is my favorite. I was a little thrown off by the fact that they’re cropped, but I checked them out in store and decided I could go for my normal size or size up one size for them to work with high waist pants. Spring is the perfect time to wear a short sleeve sweater, and it will look nice layered under a blazer (I’d go for a beige blazer) or a lightweight jacket.

I also like this short sleeve pastel sweater in yellow. It’s cotton, so it should feel a little cooler temperature wise. It’s also a more approachable price point since it’s not cashmere!

Pastel Blouses And Pastel Tops For Spring

There are a lot of beautiful pastel blouses out right now. This sage green blouse has been in my cart forever!

Flowy Pastel Button Up Or Pastel Top

Anyway, a pastel blouse is perfect to pair with a pair of blue denim or tan, beige, or ecru jeans. I love how this type of outfit looks with a neutral belt too. I’d avoid pairing black with pastels. Instead, go for something beige or tan.

I hope you found a new favorite outfit with pastels or some ideas for wearing pastels you already own!
