Hi there! Thanks for coming by today to talk about shirt jackets – also referred to as a shacket! They’re super versatile, so I find myself wearing shackets quite a bit! They’re a perfect layering piece for spring and fall when you don’t need a heavier coat. Since you can style them in so many different ways, including as outerwear, they’re a wardrobe staple during transitional weather. However, they’re also a good option for cooler months when you do want an extra layer to keep warm.
I typically turn to a shirt jacket for a casual look, but there are ways you can dress up the right shacket with trousers or a skirt. I’ve worn the three I own so much, so here’s a roundup of different ways to style shackets.
Five Shacket Outfit Ideas
Corduroy Shacket and Jeans or A Dress
Kicking off with my exact shirt jacket I’m wearing above. I bought this around the holidays. I wanted something I could wear throughout the winter and into spring, but also a piece I could pick up again in the fall. (I love shackets for fall!) So, I picked this neutral corduroy. But, the fab thing about this jacket is it comes in tons of different materials and colors. There is truly one of these jackets for every season. I really love them all, and I’m hoping to add another one to my wardrobe at some point. I’ve been wearing this a lot with jeans, but I also think it looks nice styled with a dress. Click here to see that look on me.
I’m wearing size XS, but I definitely could’ve gone with my normal Sezane size small too. Either size would’ve fit my sweaters under it! I also linked two other corduroy shackets from Everlane, which is another brand I like to shop.
Plaid Shacket Outfit Ideas
My plaid shacket is one of my most worn pieces throughout the fall and winter. I wear this all the time around the house, but it’s also so easy to throw on with jeans when you’re out and about. I like to pair mine with my combat boots or another pair of chunky boots, but it’s also cute with ballet flats or loafers in the fall. I find a plaid shacket to be a little edgy. So, if you want to give your look a more feminine vibe, wear ballet flats!
I wore this look when I was pregnant, but I still like this today. I layered my casual shirt jacket with a cozy cashmere turtleneck to stay warm. Then, I went with a pleated skirt and heeled boots for a more elegant look that I could wear out to a date or even to work. I recreated my look below.
Here I am again in this same shacket, but this is before I was pregnant. This is one way to style a shacket with trousers and chunky boots like I mentioned above!
White Shacket for Spring
Okay, let’s focus on springtime for a second because it’s actually the perfect season for a lightweight layer like a shacket. I think a white, cream, ecru, or tan shacket in particular is perfect for spring. It’s a neutral so it will go with a lot, and a lighter neutral feels like warmer weather!
One of the easiest ways to get multiple outfits out of your shacket is by changing how it’s buttoned. Layering a shacket for spring is super easy, especially if it’s made of a knit material. I love to wear mine buttoned up with a belt and a lightweight top under it like below. You can also treat it more as a piece of outwear by using it as a layer over another top and wearing it open. This is the same shirt jacket below, but at two different times.
My shacket is a knit material, so the first two shackets I linked I thought you could belt or wear open like I am above! The third one is chino, but it comes with a belt. I also really love this one, which is the ecru cotton version of the one I’m wearing at the top of this blog post. Whichever white or cream shacket you choose, I think it will make the perfect shacket outfit for spring!
Long Shacket Outfit Ideas
I love a long shacket for a cozy look. It feels like putting on a blanket, ha! This particular shirt jacket caught my eye because the plaid is so beautiful. I would definitely wear this with denim or trousers. I’d style it with boots, loafers, or these cute sneakers! You can change the entire vibe of your outfit just by changing your shoes.
Denim Shacket Outfit Ideas
There are so many cute denim shackets out there right now, and they’re here just in time for spring layering. I think spring is the ideal time for a denim shirt jacket because it’s the perfect layer!
Okay, a cropped denim jacket is super on-trend and fun, but I love the length and cut of a denim shacket. It feels more classic – like something you’ll wear every year. You can pair this with anything, whether you want to layer with a graphic tee or a sweater. I think that’s super important given the range of temperatures we see during the springtime! I love a full denim look, and you can also wear a denim shacket with white or off white denim or chino pants. Of course, they’re also cute over a dress!
