Hi there, fashion lover! It was really nice in Washington, D.C. for a lot of this week and part of the weekend (until it started snowing?!?!), so I was inspired to share some spring staples that you can use to mix and match together or with pieces you already own. These are pieces that I always find myself reaching for year after year.
First up is a blazer or tweed jacket. I have always been the biggest fan of blazers – they really elevate any outfit and always make me feel confident (what is better than that?!). You can see several ways I style blazers on my Instagram – click here and here for two different examples!
I also really love all of the tweed jackets we’ve seen the last few years. They’re a softer option than a blazer but still have the same impact of elevating an outfit – sometimes even more than a blazer, if you ask me!
I styled my tweed jacket in the photos with jeans and loafers above for a spring look, and below, I wore it buttoned up with a turtleneck, pants, and chunky boots for colder months. If you want to see a closer look at this outfit in motion, click here to see the reel I posted on Instagram.
Second is a white button down. A white button down is so essential to my wardrobe that I wrote an entire blog post on it. There are endless ways to style any button down – tucked in, half tuck, worn open with a shell underneath, worn with a belt around the middle, and the list goes on. I do think it’s worth having an oversized button down as well as a more regular fit button down as well – I find that a regular fit button down fits better under a blazer.
Third is a pair of jeans you can wear with different types of shoes. I definitely still reach for skinny jeans frequently, but I’ve always loved straight leg jeans – I think it’s because I was a kid during the 90s. Below, I’m only linking jeans I’ve worn myself and recommend. The first pair linked below are the pair I’m wearing in the first photo in the blog post.
Next up is a pair of sneakers. Once the weather starts to get a little warmer, I like to add in sneakers (instead of my boots) with my spring dresses, skirts, or just denim outfits. For me, anything that I would otherwise pair with a ballet flat or loafer, I can also wear with a sneaker! This is my go to pair. I wear them for weekends and for travel. Sneakers are really everywhere now, and you can find a pair in any color or material (and any price range)! I’m linking some of my favorites below.
Fifth is a fitted shell top that you can wear under any blazer, tweed jacket, denim jacket, etc. This type of piece is really perfect for your wardrobe because you can use it to layer all year and then wear it alone in the summer. In the photo below, I’m wearing one of my favorite shells under a shacket I’ve been practically living in since I got it earlier this winter. This particular shell/tank also comes in black, white, and royal blue, but I’ve also linked others that I have and love.
I also linked this shell top below – I’m wearing it in navy, but it comes in several colors, including fun pastels for spring.
Last but not least is a spring coat! Whether you are a fan of a denim jacket or an on-trend quilted coat, spring is really all about layering since it can be colder during the morning and night than it is during the day. I love to keep a classic denim jacket and a leather jacket (whether that is a leather shacket or classic leather jacket) in my closet, but I am really into the lightweight quilted jackets this year. I just saw this one in store and plan to order it (they didn’t have the color I wanted in store).
I hope this was helpful as you start to think about what you might wear during spring!
