Hi there! I always say that blazers are a mainstay in my wardrobe, and that goes for a wool blazer too. They’re perfect to wear across different seasons because you can wear them as your outerwear in the spring and fall, or use them as a layer in the winter. Wool blazers just add a layer of warmth and style to your outfit. There are lots of ways to style a wool blazer! So, today’s post is all about items to wear with your blazer and full outfits.

How to Style a Wool Blazer Without Feeling Frumpy
What top do you wear under a blazer? How can I layer with a blazer and not feel like my blazer is too fitted? What pants or skirts go with a blazer? If you’re wondering where to start with what to wear with your wool blazer, it might be easiest to figure out what top you want to wear. In general, it’s best to avoid anything bulky underneath so you don’t feel frumpy, and so you can easily move around. It’s so uncomfortable when your sleeves or neckline bunches up! Dresses are also a great option to wear with a wool blazer, and there are lots more ideas below. I hope today’s post helps you plan your wool blazer outfits.
What Can You Wear A Wool Blazer With
Sweater In The Same Color
A monochrome look with your wool blazer and top always looks nice – even if you don’t go for a full monochrome look. You can see my first photo above as an example. While I’m wearing this fitted mockneck sweater in that outfit, your sweater doesn’t have to be long sleeve. I frequently wear this sleeveless sweater under my wool blazer or other cardigans. From long sleeve t-shirts to button ups, there are so many tops you can wear with blazers. Click here to read my blog post that specifically covers what to wear under a blazer.
Boots And Booties
Boots and booties are the obvious shoe choice for a wool blazer because they’re warm too! I love to wear all different types of boots with my blazer regardless of if I’m wearing a dress, jeans, or a skirt.
Maxi Dress
Whether you prefer a plain maxi dress or one with a fun pattern, wearing a wool blazer over a maxi dress is an easy way to get dressed for work. This type of outfit looks really good with knee high boots.
A Leather Belt
I recently purchased this leather belt because it looks classic. It goes with just about anything, including a wool blazer. You can wear a leather belt in your pant belt loops, or you can wear it around your blazer. If you style it around your blazer, I typically wear it so the belt lays over the blazer button. This tends to works best with a single breasted blazer. You can see how I style a belt over a blazer here.
Any Type Of Jeans
You can wear a wool blazer with your favorite type of jeans, whether you prefer straight leg jeans, wide leg jeans, or something in between.
Skirts
Skirts and a wool blazer outfit are just as classic as a blazer and jeans outfit. I used to wear this type of outfit all the time when I was in the office every day. You can wear a skirt and wool blazer with boots, loafers, or ballet flats. I also love this look with sneakers for a city vacation.
A Fun Coat
I always have one fun coat in my closet for the fall and winter. I’ve had an orange plaid one for years now, and I love how it’s roomy enough to fit over a wool blazer. As a neutral lover, this does not feel very on brand for me, but I think having a fun coat is perfect to help with versatility in your closet. If you live somewhere that you don’t need a winter coat, I also love this fun trench coat!
Loafers Or Flats
If you think of a wool blazer, loafers and flats might not be your first shoe choice. But, they’re a great alternative to boots even in the cold. Loafers are easy to wear with warm socks. You can wear ballet flats or Mary Janes with sock tights. Click here to see what that looks like! I’ve also seen some people wear their ballet flats with socks! Click here to see how I styled loafers and socks with my striped wool blazer.
How To Wear A Wool Blazer
Striped Wool Blazer With A Belt
This striped wool blazer is way more versatile than you might expect. That’s because you can wear it with the belt like I am below, or you can wear it without the belt! I put together a video that shows different ways to style it with or without the belt. One of the things I love about this blazer is it’s unique, but it feels very classic. It’s the type of blazer you’ll still want to wear year after year, and it can adapt to your wardrobe or occasion.

Double Breasted Sweater Blazer
One of the things I love about blazer outfits is how easy they are to put together and how confident I feel in them. When you’re in a rush for something, whether it’s work or a coffee date, they bring an outfit together quickly. This is particularly true for a double breasted sweater blazer that you can throw on with jeans or work pants. You don’t need to worry about finding a top to go with it! You can just wear a comfortable t-shirt or tank top underneath.

Sweater blazers come in all different styles and lengths. My exact sweater blazer is sold out, but I linked several below that I love. Check out the light blue sweater blazer and ballet flats I included in the links below. They would be perfect to wear during spring with light denim.
Grey Wool Blazer With Matching Grey Cardigan
This grey wool blazer turned out to be one of my favorite purchases last year. I love the color, the fit of the blazer, and how warm it is. It’s perfect to wear with a belt too. The sleeveless cashmere top I’m wearing is also from Quince and it matches seamlessly with the blazer. I love how these chocolate brown booties added a little bit of texture to my outfit because they’re a woven leather, but you can wear black, grey, or navy shoes as well. I plan to wear this in the spring with ballet flats or loafers.

Fun Coat And Cashmere Wrap Over A Wool Blazer
If you live somewhere cold, it’s always nice to have a coat to layer over your blazer. I always go for my oversized coat and a big scarf when it’s really cold. I linked a fun plaid coat that reminds me of the one I’m wearing along with my exact wrap scarf. I also linked my same jeans in a different wash.

Tailored Jeans And A Wool Blazer For Work
These jeans are perfect to wear to the office because of the tailored hem. I’ve been eyeing them for myself for a week now because I love the length. The inseam length is 27.5 inches, which is perfect for anyone around 5’4 like me. These are wide leg jeans and they’re high waisted. So, they would look really cute with cropped or short jackets. I love how this length is perfect for all different types of shoes too.
Black Slip Skirt With Cropped Blazer
The chain print blouse and the herringbone blazer play on patterns is one way to put a fun twist on a classic outfit. You could also wear plain black or gray under the blazer if the patterns feel like too much!
Black Maxi Dress And Cropped Wool Sweater Blazer
This black maxi dress is gorgeous by itself, but if you need a layer for spring, try this wool sweater blazer. I saw this sweater blazer in store, and it is so soft! It’s also a really nice weight for winter if you live somewhere that it doesn’t get too cold. Since this dress has a high neck, you can wear the blazer open or buttoned up. I also love how you can wear this with a variety of shoes like boots, ballet flats, or loafers.
Simple Long Sleeve Shirt And Ballet Flats
One of the things I love to wear under any blazer is a simple long sleeve or short sleeve t-shirt. It’s an easy way to style a wool blazer for the spring or the fall, or even the winter if you live somewhere warm enough. It always goes nicely with jeans and flats!

Brown Belted Blazer
This chocolate brown belted blazer can be dressed up or worn casually. When I say dressed up, I mean for work or even a date night look. I personally love how it’s styled with a blue button up and slingback heel with jeans. It’s such a gorgeous outfit, and it’s one that works for both work and date night. The low heel slingback shoes I included are so cute. I’m adding them to my own wishlist since coming across them for this blog post. I linked my favorite blue button up. It’s a classic fit, so order your typical size. You can see it on me here.
Monochrome Spring Work Outfit
Spring weather obviously varies by your location. Here in DC, we get a true spring, where the highs are in the 50s or 60s, but it’s cold when you leave your house in the morning. So, a wool blazer is the perfect piece of outerwear for spring. The subtle herringbone pattern on the blazer is beautiful and adds a nice bit of texture to your outfit!
I love these tailored pants if you’re in the office. They’re perfectly polished, and super flattering. Click here to see a video of them on me.
That’s all from me today. I hope this post helps you find a new blazer outfit idea that you love. Thanks so much for reading, and be sure to sign up my newsletter!
