Hi there! Is fall your favorite fashion season too? Or, maybe you feel like you never know what to wear for fall, so that’s why you’re here! Either way, you’re in the right place if you want classic fall looks in fall shades. Switching up your wardrobe with a new season is a fun opportunity to step up your style, and it’s easy to do since fall colors are beautiful and timeless. If you love dressing for fall, you might already feel that way. But, if you don’t, these colors can help you get more into the season!

What Are Fall Colors To Wear For Classic Style?

If I were to pick a favorite season for classic looks, it’s definitely the fall season. Have you ever wondered, what are the best autumn colors to wear that I can wear again next year? Some of that certainly depends on what colors you think look best on you, but there are a few colors that keep showing up during the fall season each year.

Olive Green

Olive green and khaki green are having a huge moment as neutrals this fall! They look nice with black, denim, and pretty much any shade of beige. My pants (similar here – I own and love the cropped version in tan) are the perfect color for fall, and you can wear them to work or on the weekend. I styled them below for a date night look. I’ve also had this khaki green jacket, which is perfect for fall, on my radar for months. Click here to see one way I would style it, which happened to be what I was wearing to try it on!

Brown

Brown is back in the spotlight for yet another fall and winter. Warm colors are some of the most worn during these seasons for sure, and all of the different shades of brown never disappoint if you love neutrals. If you’ve ever been to my blog before, you’ve probably seen one of these outfit photos, but it’s the perfect example of wearing brown in the fall. I wore this outfit in London in October, which always feels quintessential fall to me, and I will wear it again this year. My jeans are a deep brown, and they’re slightly heavier so they’re perfect for crisp days.

Outfit details: My jeans and coat are the exact same. I also linked my sweater in this year’s version, my bag in a different color, and similar sunglasses.

Burgundy

Burgundy is probably the biggest trend this season when it comes to autumn colors, but it’s certainly a color you can wear next year. It’s a gorgeous option to wear for fall and throughout the winter. If you aren’t sure about how to wear burgundy, I recommend starting out by using it as an accent color through accessories. You could go for a shoe, a bag, or even a belt! If you’re a fan of burgundy, you should give dark purple a try! It’s definitely another fall color that feels like it fits with the same color palette.

Tan

Tan is a classic fall color to wear, but it’s definitely on trend again this fall. It’s a great color to choose if you purchase something that you can wear a lot, including a blazer, a cashmere sweater, boots, or wool pants. You can wear these pieces with other classic or on-trend options like burgundy or olive green.

Navy Blue

Navy blue is one of the most classic colors to wear. It’s always professional and it always looks polished. Navy blue typically looks beautiful on sweaters, and I love how it works with dark, medium, or lighter washes of denim! Plus, it also pairs perfectly with pretty much any color of work pant or work skirt. It’s hard to go wrong with navy, and it’s always in style – kind of like black!

Mustard Yellow

Okay, let’s take a break from core neutrals for a second and discuss one of this fall’s other big color trends, which is mustard yellow. This color is a fun alternative to brown and beige neutrals. You can wear it with most of the same things. It will look particularly beautiful with denim. If you love the 70s vibe, you should definitely give mustard yellow a try. We are also seeing suede everywhere for this fall, and one of the most stunning ways I’ve seen to wear suede is a mustard yellow is a suede jacket!

Grey

Grey is always a staple for cooler temperatures, and I’ve already seen several fall pieces in grey that I love! I’ve linked them below. Whether you’re going for a blazer (size down in the first blazer), a cashmere layering top, or a turtleneck, these are pieces that you can wear this fall, all winter, and again next fall! I also love these grey jeans that I’ve had for a couple of years now. Click here for my recent post on what to wear with grey jeans.

Shades of Soft Blue

While jewel tones are definitely everywhere for fall, I’ve also noticed quite a few pieces in a soft blue. And wow, it’s such a gorgeous color option! I love how it looks with chocolate brown and tan, too. Here’s one way I like to style this shade of blue – with chocolate brown!

Shades of Soft Blue

The first sweater and first pair of boots are the most similar to mine. My sweater is super old, but it looks like the same blue from what I can tell online (both are J.Crew).

Leopard

Okay, while leopard print is obviously not a specific color, it is everywhere this fall. If you’re a millennial like I am, then leopard is actually back on trend. It was so popular when I was in my 20s too, which is just proof of what everyone says about trends – they always come back again! Anyway, leopard is fun to work into your outfit in one piece in my opinion, whether you opt for a belt, a skirt, or a sweater, for example. I also had a leopard button up that I wore to work for years, so don’t be afraid to wear this print to the office too!

Denim

Surprise again – I know denim is not a color, but it’s such a good texture for fall that I had to include it. Plus, denim is a classic, and we’re talking about classics! If you’re wondering what’s on-trend this fall for denim, it’s definitely darker denim. I’m planning to pair darker denim with all of the neutrals and fall tones from this post – like burgundy or olive green.

So what’s your favorite color this fall? Do you have a color palette you’re going to stick to? It will be easy to do with all these beautiful fall shades! Are you going to try out any of the on-trend colors? Let me know in the comments. If you aren’t quite ready to give up summer, check out my recent post on how to transition summer dresses to fall.
