Hi there! Do you ever wonder what to wear to a concert “at your age?” I’m well into my 30s and found myself thinking about this question about a year ago when one of my favorite bands, New Found Glory, was going to be in town. My husband and I tried to see them twice in recent years, and we very sadly missed going both times due to my pregnancy morning sickness. Hopefully I will see them one day. Anyway, choosing outfits for a concert can be so exciting. I mean, just look at how seriously people are taking their looks for Taylor Swift concerts. I absolutely love it! But, I know it might feel overwhelming! A great outfit can set the stage (see what I did there) for your experience. So, today, I’m sharing a guide on what you could wear to a concert if you’re in your 30s like me.

Concert Outfits You’ll Feel Great In And Be Excited To Wear
Below you’ll find outfits for types of concerts with different locations and different vibes – indoor, outdoor, stadium concerts, small venues, country concerts, Christmas concerts. You get the idea! These are all things to consider when you decide what to wear, too, of course!
Okay, Here’s What To Wear To A Concert In Your 30s
For An Outdoor Concert With A Boho Vibe
Let’s start with this fabulous top to wear to an outdoor concert. Crochet just feels like the perfect boho piece to add to your concert outfit if you’re heading to a concert outside. The DC area has a lot of outdoor concert venues, and I’ve been to several concerts and festivals in the area. The key is always comfortable chic, especially if you’re heading to a festival where you’ll be out all day. A linen t-shirt under this crochet vest achieves that vibe perfectly. I also love this type of outfit if you’re heading to a winery or somewhere else laid back to enjoy a local band! I’m wearing sandals in this photo, but you can definitely wear this with sneakers, loafers, or chunkier sandals like espadrilles! This outfit also looks cute with the vest unbuttoned.
If you need a bag that will carry a lot, be sure to check out the basket bag I’m carrying. These jeans are also perfect for a concert because they have a nice amount of stretch to them, which makes them more comfortable than some rigid denim options. I bought my usual size 28.
For An Indoor Concert With An Edgy Feel
There’s a venue in Washington, DC called the 9:30 Club, and the concerts there tend to have a cool vibe. So, if you’re going to an indoor concert where you want to dress a little edgier try this outfit formula: jeans, a leather jacket, a dark belt, and a black t-shirt or tank top. If it’s too warm for a leather jacket, that’s okay! The vibe will still be the same without it. Closed toe shoes are your friend for indoor concerts – that way your feet are safe from whatever might be lurking on the floor, like a dropped drink! I love the idea of combat boots (I own and love this pair) for this type of concert, but loafers or ballet flats work too!
For A Country Concert Where You Want To Wear Jeans
Given I went to school in Tennessee, I’ve been to quite a few country concerts – both in stadiums and smaller venues. They’re always just so much fun! I typically wear cowboy boots, jeans, and some sort of cute top. My college era was really the prime of the era for so-called jeans and a going out top outfits, ha! Anyway, I love this top. It comes in tons of different color options, but it would look really nice with these skinny jeans and cowboy boots. This is my ideal country concert outfit – comfortable, cute, and fun! I also included a pair of gold boots that would look cute with the other top I linked.
For A Country Concert On A Hot Day
Okay, if it’s too hot for the jeans look, I’ll go for a dress, and I’ll still wear cowboy boots. I love this dress for a country concert. It’s perfectly flowy but it’s not so long that it will drag the ground. Plus, it will look cute with cowboy boots! This pair (seen in the collage above) has a fun cut out detail. You can tie this oversized shirt, which I’m wearing below, around your waist in case you want to add a layer too. Size down one size.
For A Jazz Cafe Concert
I’ve always wanted to get all dressed up and enjoy music and drinks at a cocktail table. Maybe it’s just what I’ve seen in movies, but it seems both relaxing and fun! I love the idea of a sleek black dress for this occasion. This one is gorgeous, and you can absolutely rewear it to a wedding or another special event. I picked these black kitten heels, but you could also do an on-trend maroon or silver! This Mulberry bag is so gorgeous. I love the iconic Postman’s Lock detailing. Drape the lady jacket over your shoulders if you need a layer.
For A Pop Concert In A Stadium
I definitely had Taylor Swift’s tour in mind when I was thinking about these concert outfits. I’m really sad to have missed this round of her concerts, but I’ve always loved how upbeat and downright fun her concerts are. So, this is what I would probably wear to the Era’s Tour had I been lucky enough to score tickets. If I were a decade younger, I’d probably go for heels, but ballet flats have been my go-to shoe (even on the weekends) for a long time now. Thankfully, they’re very much in style! I love my mesh ballet flats, and my girlfriend recently bought a super cute pair with rhinestones on them, which would be perfect for this concert. I included that vibe in the outfits below!
So, these looks are styled to feel like Reputation Era outfits. I love this shirt dress – it looks like a loose fit, which is perfect for being comfortable at a concert. These jeans are the perfect pair of straight leg jeans. I own them in other color options, and I wear them constantly. You can see them on me in blue denim here. I also included below links for a 1989 Era look, which feels a lot happier! It’s the same shoes in beige and a white sequin dress.
For An Indoor, Casual Christmas Music Concert
Okay, this is a big change of music type, but is there anything better than listening to Christmas music around the holidays? There are so many different types of concerts you might go to for Christmas music. This outfit is intended for one that’s a little more lowkey than you might find at the Kennedy Center. Think hot chocolate bar and big cozy chairs. You’ll be comfortable in this cashmere sweater and gorgeous on-trend ballet flats, and the dark denim adds a touch of polish that you don’t get from lighter denim! I linked a few bags that I just love, but the Mulberry bag I featured in the collage below definitely brings the most formal feeling to the look. This is a concert outfit that you can re-wear in your everyday life.
I own and love these jeans in a different wash. You can see how they look on me here. I own size 27 and 28, and they both fit me. They run true to size.
For A Spring Or Fall Concert At A Winery Or Flower Farm
A lot of my friends frequent local wineries and flower farms. It might surprise you that there are a lot of wineries around DC. I have been to a couple, and there are even more in the Charlottesville, Virginia area. Anyway, a lot of times these wineries or flower farms host local bands for entertainment. You might not be dressing specifically for the music, but it’s part of the environment.
I like to wear jeans, a comfortable top, and wear a lightweight layer for this type of outing. I recently saw this floral top in store, and really like the pattern and weight of the blouse. It has a little bit of a flowy feel to it, so it will look nice paired with these straight leg jeans. These jeans are super comfortable, too, which means you can sit on a picnic blanket in comfort. There are a lot of outerwear options to choose from like a suede jacket or a blazer, but I styled this look with an oversized denim jacket. Don’t forget your sunglasses!
For Outdoor Family Night With Live Music
Okay, this isn’t exactly the same thing as a stadium tour, ha. But, if you’re heading out to a local family night with live music, I love this dress because it’s comfortable, pretty, and super kid friendly. It also comes in black and navy! I’m wearing it here with slingbacks, but I would probably go for sneakers or espadrilles.
I keep eyeing these bags that I linked. I look at them whenever I go in Madewell. They come in tons of different color options, as well as leather and suede.
For A 90’s Theme Concert
I mentioned how my husband and I have been trying to see New Found Glory in recent years, so I was thinking it could be fun to dress nostalgically for this concert. I would probably go for skinny jeans, an oversized t-shirt (maybe even a New Found Glory t-shirt), and some sort of jacket if the weather calls for it. For shoes, I’d go for loafers or sneakers – both of which I wore in high school. I love the twist detail on the neckline of the black t-shirt I linked (not photographed).
