Hi there! Thanks so much for stopping by today. Blazers are one of my favorite things in my closet, and that’s for any time of the year. They will complete almost any outfit. They’re just so versatile – what else can you reliably wear to work or a date night – which means there are endless styling opportunities for blazers. They’re truly the perfect piece of outerwear for work, casual days, first dates, and the list goes on! Plus, blazers are a classic piece that will never go out of style. They always survive my closet clean outs!
What To Wear Under A Blazer During Winter, Spring, Fall, and Summer
So, maybe you already have a favorite blazer in your closet or you’ll find one here today. Either way, I’m sharing an edit of what to wear under your blazer! One of my top tips for styling a blazer is to choose something to wear under it that will not feel bulky or bunch up. When it comes to layering, there’s nothing worse than feeling like you cant move! But, blazers aren’t just for cold days! I’m also including what to wear under a blazer when it’s warm outside – pieces like the perfect linen t-shirt that I’ve worn for so many years.
Okay, here is what I wear under my blazers. PS – There are outfit ideas later in the blog post too.

Ribbed, Tuckable Shirt
My exact ribbed shirt from the photo is one of my go-to tops to wear under all of my blazers because of the fabric, cut, and overall look. I really love this top under an oversized fit blazer like the tan blazer I’m wearing above – the contrast of the fitted top against a looser fit blazer is always a good formula. Anyway, the ribbing on this top makes it much more elevated than plain t-shirts! It’s also made up of mostly cotton, but it contains fabrics that make it somewhat stretchy. So, it’s a comfortable yet stylish top.
It’s also the perfect cut to tuck in, and the best part is the neckline is work appropriate. It is a fitted cut, so you can definitely wear this top on a date night and drape the blazer over your shoulders. The color options are perfect neutrals that will go with any blazer. I recently picked up the blue and white stripe version, which is a good option for spring.
If you’re curious about size, I think this top runs true to size.
Cashmere Sweater
This is pretty straightforward. You can never go wrong with layering a classic fit cashmere sweater under a blazer. My outerwear below is technically a jacket, but I think it qualifies as a blazer too. Either way, this cashmere sweater is maybe the one thing I’d recommend over anything else! It’s the perfect weight for fall, winter, and spring because it’s warm but it can also be layered for colder days.
I also love the range of colors this sweater comes in, and it’s available year after year. That’s how you know it’s a classic! I turn to this sweater all the time because it just looks nice with anything you pair it with.
Fun Button Up or Fun Blouse
Button up shirts and a blazer are a classic match if you ask me, but I also love a fun button up or even a blouse that steals the show! It’s also nice to be able to have a working top on if you need to take off your blazer. I love to wear this striped button up that I’m wearing below under a blazer, for example! I also love this green and white stripe button up. I’ve linked a ton of cute options below as well. The first two below are currently in my cart.
Cardigan Sweater
I love the look of a cardigan under a blazer! There’s something about the buttons that gives it such a polished look, and a cardigan-blazer outfit is perfect for spring or fall when you need to layer. I recommend a cardigan that isn’t too bulky or you’ll end up feeling like a marshmallow!
I saw this cashmere cardigan in store recently and resisted it. However, it was the first piece that came to mind when I was writing this section! It’s a good sweater for spring because it’s lightweight! The cream and the black trim would look beautiful under a black blazer, and there won’t be any bulky problems. I love a crewneck cardigan the most under a blazer. You might also go for a cardigan with short sleeves or even sleeveless tops for maximum comfort.
Linen Crewneck Shirt
This linen crewneck t-shirt is one of my go-to tops for spring and summer. It’s the perfect weight, and it falls beautifully on you when you’re wearing it! Not all t-shirts are the same! Anyway, the short sleeves make this top ideal for layering. Plus, it comes in neutrals, lots of pretty colors like pink and green, and stripes! This t-shirt is a good option to wear under a blazer for spring.
Simple Tank Top
Okay, I love how many different styles of blazers are out there – I feel like there’s something for everyone. I definitely consider lady jackets to be blazers. They’re obviously not a traditional blazer, but lady jackets are a classic piece themselves! One of my favorite things about lady jackets is that you can wear them by themselves. But, sometimes I like to add a little tank top under them for added warmth or comfort. This is the one I wear all the time.
If you want a simple layer for a traditional blazer, I love the mockneck top I linked below for a more polished look. I tuck in my tank tops, which I also think helps to elevate your outfit.
Crop Top
A crop top under a blazer is an easy way to dress comfortably and cute for a date night! When it’s colder out, a cashmere sweater crop is perfect. I wear the even more cropped version of the sweater tank top I linked below, and it’s warm! It also holds its shape really well, so you won’t have to worry about it stretching out even after a few times wearing it. You can see how it looks on me here under a leather jacket and a button up – a similar vibe!
Crop tops are obviously a great option for warmer weather, so I also included a linen crop top. This would look really cute with a linen blazer and jeans.
Sweatshirt or Hoodie
A sweatshirt or a hoodie is one of my favorite things to wear under a blazer. It is such an effortless look that is super on-trend! There’s a reason companies make blazers with built-in sweatshirts! Just pop the hood of your hoodie over your blazer’s collar. I recommend an oversized blazer for this kind of outfit.
Classic Button Up
You will never go wrong with a classic button up under a blazer. Of course, white is an easy go-to option, but I also love to wear a light blue button up under a blazer. You can wear your button up tucked in, or wear it untucked with a belt around it if you choose an oversized shirt.
Striped T-Shirt
This business casual look works for the office or for the weekend! My exact top is old, but I’m sharing similar pieces!
Eight Blazer Outfits
Tan Blazer With A Belt
This first look is the same outfit I’m wearing at the top of this blog post, and it’s a favorite blazer outfit for me. It’s an old Zara blazer, but I’m sharing a few others I love. The long sleeved ribbed top is the exact same one I’m wearing. It fits so easily under a blazer, so I’m comfortable and I feel chic!
I put this outfit together for spring and fall – when I love to wear ballet flats and when I don’t need an added layer of a winter coat. Anyway, it’s something I would wear to work, for a coffee meeting, a lunch, or any type of meeting. However, I also love this type of look for dinner out with my family. I often turn to this type of outfit because it transitions so easily from day to night.
Classic Black Blazer and Cardigan
If you need a versatile, casual outfit in your closet, this one is it. You can wear this to casual Friday at work, drinks afterwards with your coworkers, and running errands with your little babes the next day. Or, wear it out to dinner with your friends or family. I would also pack this exact look for your next city vacation.
One of the nice things about this type of outfit is you can wear it with whatever shoes you’re most comfortable in. I love the look of a loafer with a super feminine piece like this cardigan, but you can also wear booties, ballet flats, or even sneakers. During the fall, winter, and spring, I’d also opt for my trusty combat boots, which you can see me wearing a few outfits down!
Linen T-Shirt And Linen Blazer for Warm Weather
This linen-tshirt and linen blazer both come in the perfect color options for spring and summer. There are gorgeous neutrals and a really pretty green in the blazer. If you want a fun pop of color, I’d do that with the t-shirt! You could go for a monochrome look with one of the lighter blazer colors too.
Pair with white denim or the skirt below. I love this pleated skirt. I wore this throughout my pregnancy! You can click here to see it on me. I picked espadrilles for this look, but you can obviously wear it with any shoe – even sneakers. I think this would look really pretty with a sleek bun or ponytail, and your favorite earrings. If you work in an office, this is the blazer I would choose to have in my closet for any work looks when it’s warm but you need a blazer.
Fun Button Up Outfit
There are endless outfit ideas for a button up and a blazer! You can wear these pieces with a work dress as a part of a suiting look, with jeans, or with a skirt! I happen to love jeans, so that’s how I styled them for this outfit idea. One of my favorite ways to wear a fun button up for the office is under a sheath dress, and this comes in the perfect colors for work – black or navy. You can also do a lot with a gray sheath dress.
Crewneck Cardigan and Jeans
I love the look of the button front cardigan under a blazer. While it would look professional under a suit jacket, you don’t have to be going to the office to wear this type of look. So, I paired this outfit with denim for a more dressed down, casual vibe. However, this look totally works for work if you’re allowed to wear jeans.
Monochrome Look
This is the full outfit from a photo at the top of this post. I’m wearing a brown cashmere sweater and a brown corduroy blazer jacket. My exact sweater is sold out, but I’m linking a brown cardigan that I like to wear under this blazer jacket as well. You can see that look here!
I wanted to show you my entire outfit because it’s a great fall, winter, and spring option. But, this blazer jacket comes in so many different colors and materials for the entire year. Many of the options will go over a dress, which is a nice option for spring or fall.
Classic White Button Up Under A Blazer
Okay, another repeat of this tan blazer, which is sadly old Zara. I love a neutral blazer because they’re so versatile. Anyway, you can never go wrong with wearing a classic white button up with your jeans. It’s like these shirts and jeans are made to go together! I also love the look of a light blue button up with a tan, black, or gray blazer.
If you want to make this outfit more professional for work, I’ve worn it with a slip skirt or a pleated skirt. You could wear the blazer buttoned and belt it for a super chic vibe.
Neutral Sweater Under A Fun Blazer
This is one of my favorite blazer outfits, and I recreated it in gray since my Bardot blazer is old. This is a solid weekend look because of the combat boots. But, you could always change your shoes if you want to wear this look to work. Or, if you can wear combat boots to work – I’m envious, ha!
If you’ve made it all the way here, thanks so much for reading! I hope you found some blazer outfit inspiration!
