Hello, hello! How are you? I’ve been busy with my little babe, and we’ve also been spending some time with family, which has been wonderful. It’s baby nap time, so I sat down to write this post. Okay, it’s pretty rainy today, but striped tops always make me think of a happy, sunny day no matter what the temperature is.
I love how stripes elevate any look. Plus, they’re a classic pattern, so they’ll never go out of style.
There are so many different takes on stripes. They’re actually quite versatile! Stripes can be casual, work appropriate, or even on a top you’d wear out on a date. They also work across every season: I love a linen stripe t-shirt as much as a long sleeve striped shirt. Stripes might seem hard to style since they can feel vibrant, but they will work with a lot of what you already own. Today, I’m sharing a roundup of items that go well with striped tops to achieve different looks.
What to Wear With A Striped Top
Okay, let’s get into it! These are a few things I love to wear with a striped top, whether a long sleeve stripe tee, a stripe button up, a short sleeve linen top, or, okay, I think you get the point! There are also full outfits and outfit ideas below.

Trousers
I recently wore brown trousers with my off-the-shoulder striped top. My outfit was basically thrown together in the ten minutes I had to get ready for my birthday dinner, ha! I didn’t feel like wearing jeans, and I wanted to wear my comfortable loafers because I knew we would walk around a lot. So, these trousers were the best option based on what was clean and fit the weather! I love a striped shirt with these crepe pants too. They’re super comfortable and lightweight! Click here to see them on me.
When it’s warm outside, either of these pants work with a linen stripe t-shirt and sandals!
If you’re ever just not in the mood to wear jeans but want to wear pants, I highly recommend a pair of neutral trousers. They work for the weekend as much as they do for the office, so they won’t just sit in your closet either.
Dainty Jewelry
I loved how my dainty necklace looked with my off-the-shoulder stripe top for my birthday dinner, but this is definitely a piece you can wear with other necklines on stripe tops. I like minimalistic jewelry in general, but especially if I’m wearing something with a pattern – like stripes!
My necklace is actually my baby’s birth flower, making it all the more special to me. It comes in different metal options, and of course the other birth flowers! I chose sterling silver. Denim
Jeans are an obvious option to wear with a stripe top, but I had to include them because I wear jeans so often. I love a striped top with tan, ecru, or white jeans when it’s warmer to keep the outfit feeling like spring or summer. In the fall or winter, stripes are fun to pair with gray, black or blue denim – but I wear these colors when it’s warm outside too!
Loafers
Loafers are perfect for a casual outfit with a stripe top – like with jeans. However, I also loved how my loafers looked with my trousers and off-the-shoulder stripe top for a date night look – although it was still pretty casual. Loafers, jeans, and a stripe turtleneck or button up would be a great outfit option for colder months! You can layer your stripe turtleneck under a plain button up to keep warm, too.
Linen Bottoms
If you also live in a place where the humidity gets out of control, linen is your best friend during the summer! A striped tank top will look nice with linen pants or linen shorts. I love how linen automatically gives your look an effortless vibe.
Denim Midi Skirt
This denim midi skirt has been on my mind. It’s perfect for spring, but you can also wear this all fall and winter with boots, which is kind of the dream! Anyway, this type of skirt is perfect for a business casual office vibe, but you should also wear it on the weekend. I love this particular skirt with these sneakers. Denim is such a good base to wear with a striped top, and a denim midi skirt would give you multiple outfit options.
Espadrilles, Ballet Flats, and Leather Sandals
I mostly wear shoes that have a super low heel, so ballet flats have always been a go-to shoe for me. They are such a timeless, classic shoe that will pair nicely with a timeless pattern like stripes. So, you never have to worry about either of them going out of style.
Espadrilles are obviously perfect for spring and summer. I recently purchased these espadrilles, and I’m so happy with them! They’re incredibly comfortable, and the mesh will be just what I need to keep my feet cool during the summer. I will definitely pair these with a stripe linen top and jeans for a spring or summer outfit as soon as it’s warm enough.
Seven Striped Top Outfit Ideas
French Girl Style In Stripes
The effortless, cool girl vibe of French girl style is super in right now, but I don’t think it’s ever going out of style (and I hope it doesn’t). This navy and ecru long sleeve tee is a great piece to wear with denim, a belt, a blazer, and a trench coat. You could also wear the striped top under an oversized button up. I also love this top in the pastel colors it comes in. Layering your stripes will help you obtain that French girl style! This look would also be cute with loafers.
Striped Cardigan And Jeans With Ballet Flats Or Espadrilles
My look is so easy to throw on and feel chic! I wear this type of look often, so I had to include it. Stripe lady jacket cardigans are pretty popular right now for spring, and I am sure we will all wear them again once fall rolls back around. Anyway, I love this look with denim for spring, but I also love it with black linen trousers and espadrilles once it starts to get slightly warmer. Plus, both of these outfits are work appropriate for different types of dress codes!
I linked ballet flats that I love, and the exact mesh socks I’m wearing (they’re kind of like tights but in sock version). I love these for spring and fall.
Denim And Striped Button Up Outfit
I’m such a neutral lover, so I often gravitate towards the same tones in stripes. But, this fun yellow was too pretty to pass up for spring and summer. H&M made a very similar top this year. The only difference seems to be that the stripes are a little more narrow. Either way, it’s still a linen-cotton blend, which is ideal for spring and summer.
Denim Skirt With Striped Top For The Weekend
This is the denim skirt I mentioned above. I’ve been eyeing these Sezane woven shoes for over a year now, and I think I might need them for the spring and summer. The two neutral colors they come in are so pretty, and they’ll go with everything from linen trousers to this denim skirt! I love the flat pair, but they also make a pair with a very manageable 1.8 inch heel height, and I linked those too. I also included a pair of ivory-creamy ballet flats that would be perfect with this look. I just received the ballet flats, and they’re really cute!
Okay, about the striped tee here. I love this fitted top in contrast to the flowy skirt. It’s a super feminine outfit all around. I think it’s a good option to consider for a brunch, meeting your significant other’s parents, or to pack if you’re traveling this spring and summer! It’s easy to layer for spring with a blazer or quilted jacket.
Business Casual Stripes Outfit
A stripe button up is the perfect top for a business casual look if you want to wear stripes. These tops are professional, but they also look nice dressed down with jeans, linen pants, or leather pants on the weekend. So, you won’t be limited to wearing this top just at work.
Slim Wide Leg Chino Pants and Stripe Linen Top
I tried these pants and top on in store recently, and the pants are perfect for spring. They’re really comfortable, but nicer than a pair of plain chinos because of the front pocket details. I love them with these black espadrilles, which I picked up last month. A striped linen top pairs perfectly with these pants for a classic, monochrome look for a casual spring outfit.
Summer Stripe Tank Top And Linen Trousers
Linen trousers are a summer staple that will go with any stripe top. There are so many formality options when it comes to linen now, too. You can find linen pants to wear as a swimsuit coverup or a pair that are part of a suit for an office look. I styled this look to be somewhere in between! The twist feature on this top is a fun detail that elevates the top above a typical tank top!
I hope you found some inspiration on how to style stripes – no matter what season it is!
