What to Wear With Light Blue Jeans

Hi there! If you’ve been here before, you already know how much I love jeans. They’re a classic staple that you can wear any time of the year. I think jeans work for everyone since they come in so many different cuts and washes. Light blue jeans have become pretty popular in my closet for all seasons, so I wanted to put together a blog post on all the different ways to wear them. I love a lighter wash denim for spring and fall, but they’re also perfect for winter as you can see below! They look really nice with so many different fabrics, including cold weather fabrics like leather, which makes them easy to style.

What to Wear With Light Blue Jeans

Today, I’m sharing a roundup of items that look great with light blue jeans plus some outfits that you can wear right now.

What To Wear With Light Blue Jeans In The Fall, Winter, And Spring

First, here are my absolute favorite light blue denim jeans. I own and love most of these, but I’m also eyeing a few of them.

I use affiliate links throughout this blog post, which means I might make a commission if you use my link and then make a purchase. This commission comes at no cost to you.

Okay, let’s look at individual items that work well with light blue jeans before we look at full outfits! I’ve worn light blue jeans with most of these pieces, so you can see what they look like in an outfit later in the blog (scroll down if that’s what you’re looking for!)

Grey Blazer

The grey blazer I’m wearing above is 100 percent wool and incredibly warm, which is exactly what I was hoping for! I took this outfit for a test run on a really cold day and stayed warm. Grey is a really good color to wear with lighter wash denim, and I have a couple of outfits below where you can see why. Blue and grey undertones work really well together.

Tailored Coat

A tailored coat will go a long way in your closet for many years. Plus, they help add a bit of polish to denim outfits. There are so many coat options out there, which might feel a little overwhelming! I would pick based on which color will go with the absolute most in your closet. Okay, that might seem obvious. But, I am no stranger to getting pulled into adding a coat to my cart that is gorgeous but won’t work with most of my wardrobe.

Brown Sweaters

My closet is full of brown sweaters! If you love to wear brown or find your color analysis is warm, then brown is a great option for you too. From a cashmere crewneck that I wear every week to a brown knit sweater with bell sleeves I save for a dinner out, I turn to this color time and time again. There is something about a rich neutral color like brown or navy that just looks really nice with jeans in lighter shades.

Brown Boots

Brown leather boots look beautiful against a light wash jean. My brown boots are always my most worn every fall and winter, and I know I’ll wear each pair for years to come.

A Festive Sweater

You might be thinking, when was the last time you wore a festive sweater? I know you’re a neutrals gal. Okay, you’re right – but I love a festive sweater around the holidays, and there are plenty of neutral sweater options! I recently picked up this fair isle sweater. Click here to see it on me.

Loafers and Socks

Pretty much any neutral loafer will look nice with light denim, whether you go for black loafers, brown loafers, or two-tone loafers! I think a leather shoe really pops against the lighter blue. You can pair your loafers with socks when it’s cold so you stay warm, which is how I wear my loafers throughout the winter. This is my favorite pair.

Cream Handbag

I love how my cream handbag looks against my lighter wash denim, so I had to include it here! The bag is something you can wear all year, and it works for dinner out as well as when you’re just running errands. Click here to shop my handbag in smooth leather – mine is pebbled – and a different handle color.

White Button Up

If you’re looking for the most classic thing you can wear with jeans, it’s a white button up. I live in this oversized one. Be sure to size down one size! I also love these classic options below if you want something with a closer fit, or if you need a classic fit for work.

Leather Blazer

Leather blazers are a classic, and they look so good with jeans. You can pair a leather blazer with tailored light blue jeans for an instantly chic outfit for work. Or, pair your leather blazer with raw hem jeans and sneakers for a sporty outfit on your days off. Click here to see the first one on me. I’d size down one size.

Denim Button Up

I love the look of denim on denim. I own these high waisted light blue jeans and there’s actually a denim button up that’s a perfect match, which was such a good idea by this company given the popularity of full denim outfits. Anyway, you could wear a cardigan, blazer, or other jacket over this for a casual office look.

You could also wear your denim button up as an overshirt and layer it over a tank top or turtleneck! I love that type of outfit – it gives such an effortless, casual vibe. This denim button up is a great option for that type of outfit – wear it open or partially buttoned. I’d layer it with a white tank or turtleneck to tie it together with your lighter denim jeans.

Pistachio Green Coat

This pistachio green coat caught my eye, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Green is a great color to wear with light blue jeans! Like I said earlier in this blog post, I typically go for neutral coats, but I love to have one or two fun coats in my closet. I have an orange plaid one that I love to wear, but this green wrap coat is just something so different, and it goes with a lot of neutrals.

Black, Brown, or Cognac Belts

This one is short and sweet. Black, brown, and cognac belts alway look perfect against denim.

Ten Light Blue Jeans Outfits

I have so many examples from my own photos plus outfit ideas of how to wear light blue jeans! A lot of them include the pieces I suggested above. Okay, let’s look at the outfits!

Grey Wool Blazer With Neutral Boots

This outfit is one of those looks you can wear anywhere. It’s perfect for work. I love it for a casual Friday in a business casual office or any day of the week if you’re in a casual work environment. But, I’m wearing it here on the weekend to go out with my family. Grey Wool Blazer With Neutral Boots
Grey Sweater with Grey Boots for Winter

This an outfit I lived in last winter. Grey is such a good neutral to wear with all different shades of light blue denim. They just go perfectly together. I’m linking my exact jeans along with some grey sweaters I love. These are the closest boot to the pair I’m wearing (they’re by the same brand).

Tailored Coat with Neutral Sweater and Loafers

Light blue denim can come off as casual, and a tailored coat will dress up your look. Layer a neutral top coat or a wrap coat over a cashmere sweater like I did below for an elevated casual look. Your shoe choice will also help elevate your look. So, go for loafers, boots, or ballet flats instead of sneakers. I would wear this to work in a casual office setting as well as on the weekend!

Daytime Outfit: Brown Sweater, Brown Boots, Blue Jeans

My muted chocolate brown sweater is another neutral that works well with lighter blue jeans. It’s an oversized fit, so you can also wear it untucked for ultra comfort. If you wear a lot of the same color together like I do, it never hurts to add some texture to your outfit, which is what I did with these brown woven leather boots. They’re stunning in person! I’m also wearing a neutral belt that’s a dark brown and black python print, which really shows up against light denim! Shop my entire outfit here.

Light Blue Denim Outfit For the Weekend

If you’re looking for something to wear on the weekends from the fall all the way through spring, give this look a try. This camel wool half zip up is so warm and comfortable, and it looks really cute with light wash jeans! So, you’ll be weekend comfortable but also put together. You can wear a tank top, t-shirt, or turtleneck under it too.

I wear these loafers a lot because they’re the most comfortable pair I own, and they go with most every pair of jeans. The one downside to these loafers is that I don’t personally love the way they look with socks. Anyway, my jeans with the fun waistline aren’t available anymore, but I linked the same cut in a light wash. I’m wearing the short length since I’m 5’4.

White Button Up With Light Blue Jeans For Spring

A white button up with jeans is a classic, chic look. You can’t go wrong. You can wear this to work, to brunch, shopping, to a winery, to a cooking class, to a movie date. The options are endless. While I’m wearing shoes that are a good fit for fall or spring, these boots would look so cute with them. I own them in dark brown and love how they look with these pants.

This outfit is actually just a great base outfit too! You can wear it by itself, or you can add to it! Layer with a sweater, a jacket, or a blazer, and add a belt! I linked the same jeans but without the embroidery. If you’re 5’4 or under like I am, these pants will feel more like full length jeans as opposed to crop like the name says, but I love the fit (depending on how long your legs are, of course)!

White Button Up With Light Blue Jeans For Spring
Classic Green Coat And Knee High Boots

I’ve somehow found two green coats that I love, so that’s what the next two outfits are. While they’re very different, they’d both look really cute with lighter wash denim! This straight fit, wrap coat is a beautiful pistachio color that I would wear with these beige knee high boots and a sweater.

Green Coat And Edgy Boots

This khaki wrap coat will look super chic against light blue jeans, and these black boots will add the perfect edge to your outfit. You can wear this with a blouse, a turtleneck, a sweater, or whatever your favorite top is. I’d also add a black belt if you tuck in your top!

Light Wash Jeans Under $100 For Casual Outfits

If you’re looking for super light wash denim, this pair is perfect for you. They’re a little stretchy, so I recommend them if you’re getting back into jeans after having a baby. I wish I’d bought them earlier in my postpartum journey. Anyway, they’re super casual, so I paired them with a button up and a nice pair of loafers to make them feel a little more polished. My ultimate goal was comfort, as I was going to a casual dinner with a toddler!

Light Wash Jeans For Casual Outfits

I’m keeping these in my closet to wear for spring, summer, and fall. They feel a little too light for me for winter, but if I were in a warmer climate for winter, I’d definitely wear them. If you’re between sizes, size down one size in the jeans.

Ribbed Cashmere Sweater with Light Jeans for Winter Travel

This ribbed sweater comes in several neutral options and a beautiful blue or burgundy. As you can see, I own one from years past in camel, and this sweater has been through it all – from busy days at home with a baby to running around London – and it still looks great. If you need something to keep you warm, this is it! I love how each of the colors this sweater comes in would look gorgeous with lighter blue denim! The blue would be especially perfect for creating a monochrome outfit.
