Hello and welcome, or welcome back! Today’s post is all about how to style silk skirts. They’re actually quite versatile! You can wear a silk skirt to work, for dinner with friends, to a baby shower, or with sneakers for a really casual option. Those are just a few ideas. You can easily dress a silk skirt up or down depending on your mood or the occasion.
Anyway, I love how they add a touch of romance and elegance to your outfit no matter where you’re going. Silk is one of those fabrics that just feels luxurious and transcends trends. Plus, it’s super breathable!
Here’s Exactly What To Wear With Silk Skirts
First, here are a few silk skirts that would go with the pieces below. I also put together several outfit ideas with the skirts for work and weekend. If you aren’t sure when you’d wear a silk skirt, I think you’ll see it’s a great base for lots of outfits – just like jeans!
Cotton T-Shirt
While silk is a beautiful fabric, you can absolutely wear it for informal looks. A silk skirt, like a midi skirt, is balanced out nicely with a cotton t-shirt and casual shoes like sneakers for a comfortable weekend outfit!
Kitten Heel Slingback Shoes
I’ve been eyeing these slingback shoes with a kitten heel to wear with denim, but I love the idea of wearing these with a silk slip skirt for work or a night out. Kitten heels look nice with just about any length of skirt. Plus, there’s nothing better than a cute shoe that you can actually walk in!
Blazer
A wool, linen, crepe, cashmere, or even denim blazer will instantly elevate your skirt, whether you’re looking for an outfit for work or for something more laid back. I love to pair a midi or maxi slip skirt with a t-shirt, blazer, and casual shoes. These are pieces you might typically wear with jeans, but they’re instantly elevated with a silk skirt.
Shirt Jacket
This elevated shirt jacket is one of my favorite pieces of outerwear in my closet. I’m obviously not wearing it with a skirt here, but this is how it fits! I’ve also been eyeing it in several other colors and materials. This jacket is so well made, and the straight fit is perfect to contrast with the movement of a silk skirt. The suede version (seen on me if you click) is especially gorgeous, and I love the ecru (seen on me here) for warmer weather. Anyway, I love how this jacket looks with a midi skirt length!
Oversized Sweater
An oversized sweater is the perfect cold weather top to pair with a silk slip skirt. I love how an oversized top balances with a super feminine silhouette of a slip skirt. This outfit always looks so chic with knee high boots.
Six Silk Skirt Outfit Ideas
The Anywhere Silk Skirt Outfit Styled For Date Night
This is the type of outfit you can wear anywhere. I styled it for a date night look, but with summer vacations underway, this is also a great option if you’re headed to a city. This outfit would look nice with sneakers too (I love these) if you’re going to do a lot of walking. The length of this skirt also makes it a nice option for cooler weather, when you can pair it with an oversized sweater and boots.
Casual Outfit With Sezane’s Will Jacket
This jacket is one of my top ranking closet staples. I don’t have anything bad to say about it! The fit is so beautiful, and the structure and quality of the jacket are unbeatable. I love how it comes in so many different colors and vibes, but most of them can be dressed up or dressed down. I recommend going down one size. I wear an XS, and I’m normally a size small in Sezane.
Anyway, this outfit is perfect for an off duty casual outfit or for a business casual work environment. I think you can achieve either look just by changing your shoes. This outfit is another example of how mixing more masculine pieces and more feminine pieces together looks so nice! I really love the look of this particular skirt. Vince makes really beautiful pieces, and this skirt is no exception!
Silk Slip Skirt And Blazer
This is a classic outfit for work or for the weekend that you can wear any time of the year just by changing your shoes and the fabric of the blazer. I styled this look below with a simple black t-shirt and a linen blazer for warmer weather. Either pair of shoes will also elevate this look!
Butter Yellow Maxi Skirt And Matching Top
If you’re looking for the Kate Hudson How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days dress in a skirt, this is it. Plus, it comes with a matching top! It’s a beautiful option for an event. Or, wear it for date night with a fitted crewneck top. When it’s cold, you could pair this with brown boots and a sweater.
Black Silk Pencil Skirt For Work
Slip skirts are a classic work option! They will always be in style and work appropriate. I love this skirt to wear with boots or the kitten heel I mentioned earlier in this post. You don’t need to pack this skirt away for the cold weather, either. This skirt will look nice with knee high boots or over the knee boots.
Tan Silk Pencil Skirt For Work
This is the same pencil skirt in a different color that you can also wear to work no matter the season! I’ve styled it here for spring, summer, and early fall. This button up is a lightweight cotton-linen blend, which is perfect to keep you cool when it’s hot outside. I styled it with two shoes that you can also wear through those seasons. I love a low heel for work, but this outfit will also work with boots (and a different top) when it gets cold.
On-Trend Red Skirt For Work And After Work Event
Pops of red are everywhere right now, so why not go for a red silk skirt? I’m pretty picky about which shades of red I go for, but I love this particular shade of red. This skirt is a good length to wear with a top that hits around your waist to make sure it doesn’t shorten you.
The skirt is definitely work appropriate too, which is what I had in my mind when I put together the outfit below. I would reach for this outfit for a day where I had a work-related after hours event because it feels chic and a little more deserving of something other than your typical Wednesday at work! I always used to save some of my favorite office looks for those types of days.
Okay, that’s it from me today. Let me know what you think about wearing a silk skirt in the comments!
